How do you lock/unlock the rear hatch (and rear window) if the electronic buttons are not working?
2004 Mercury Mountaineer, v6, 4liter, awd, not flex-fuel.

As far as I know, they have to be locked/unlocked electronically.

Determine if it's the button, wiring, or the lock mechanism. If you mean the button on the driver's door arm rest (is there a separate button for that?), it could be a frayed wire in the boot from the door. Similarly you could check for frayed wire from the body to the liftgate aka rear hatch.

If you don't want to fix the fault right now, you *might* be able to take the trim panels off and manually engage the lock. While the panel is off you can check whether power gets to it when you press the button. Do you hear anything, like the lock actuator may be working but there is a linkage problem?

First thing's first. Check the fuse.

My two cents worth - if switches / wiring / actuators are working you can hear them. If you wanted to test liftgate lock actuator is dark blue yellow plus and pink black negative. Have to get onto them above headliner left rear roof. Not something I would do - provided as info. With stuck glass, Been there done that and I remember approach being loosen trim enough to manually unlock glass and then manually unlock gate. Details in other threads. Raise gate and remove trim and start testing.
