Jay has a good point about the corrections. What are we guessing at the rear wheels or flywheel? I ll throw my guess in here at a low of 205 at the flywheel assuming a 25% drivetrain loss. It would be great if I am wrong, look forward to the information it should be useful for future mods.

I based my guess on what NFS said about the gains he got from the chip and headers- in my view the two single biggest contributors to the game. The rest will add another 5% to that. 160+32= 192x1.05= 201.6HP

NFS what is your drivetrain combo?- 5 sp/Auto, and the drive ratio? Does anyone know if gearing can "fool" a chassis dyno? Just wondering.

NFS who makes roller rockers for the 4.0L? Pass along the Mfr and part numbers.

Roller Rockers and Power Pulleys

Hey guys. Seems like some people misunderstood me and are now calling me stupid! I personally am seking 250hp and not on a mission to prove anyone wrong. I enjoy the challenge of trying to do this in a tight budget. Besides I am pulling a $50,000 new boat with the Explorer and I want to be sure the boat isn't pulling the Explorer instead. WIth the 7 mods I have done with the addition of a power pulley and roller rockers I truly hope to break 250Hp and I truly believe it is going to be very very close. Without a power pulley and roller rockers I think I am above 225 and I will know in 2 weeks. My problems is as ome of you have guessed I am unable to find a manufacturer of Roller Rockers and Power Pulleys for a '96 Explorer 4.0L. Can anyone help? I spoke with summit and they were no real help. Thanks.

Ive been reading through the thread... I have and am getting pretty much the same mods he Need speaks of.. plus some new cylinder heads. :) Then Im going to dyno it... Ill let you guys know how much HP I end up with. Should be done here in a few weeks. Just waiting for the parts. (The headers are going to be a week late though).

OH! Anyone know how much it costs to get a chip custom programmed? I have a JET chip... and I know they custom program.. but I have heard good things about Superchips. Should I spend the dough (which I am out of) and get a custom superchip.. or should I save the cash and get my Jet Chip reprogrammed? The Jet runs well.. but Ive never seen dyno results from Jet vs Superchip. Or would it even matter if they were custom chips? Hmmm

Speed Limiter

Not sure yet, I must air it our this weekend. I will let you know what the top speed is. I know just the place to do it.

Ive looked for pullys myself.. hard to find. I never could find any for the explorer.. I did however find some that said they had them for all ford trucks.. never called though..

Good luck on hitting 250 though. That BBK supercharger is a bolt on! :) I have about half the mods you listed right now... and im still slow...

Question

Thanks for the info....do you remember the manufactures name you spoke of? I realize you said it was Ford in general and it may not help......but a lead is a lead

Sorry.. nuthin! I just saw it cruisin thought some mags... probably Truckin or something. I used to have the first issue (and only issue) of SUV power.. could have been in there. Im not sure exactly how similar the engines are.. but maybe Ranger pullys might be easier to find.. and they might fit. I noticed alot of truck places will just say it fits the Ranger when it acually fits the Explorer/Ranger/(Bronco?)

I agree with GJarrett. NFS post was pretty misleading. Personally I dont think that kind of goal is obtainable (and I have dropped well over a grand in parts) without some serious modifications. For the most part... bolt on parts only frees up horsepower that already there... that is being restricted by not so well designed parts or parts designed for fuel economy/reliabilty/or cost... If that makes any sense. Hopefully Ford didnt design an engine thats so bogged down in restictions that over a 1/3 of its power is being sucked up by restictions in the intake/exaust. However, I am a strong beliver in getting power on the cheap. I dont want to drop a few grand at a time per mod, such as getting internal work on the engine done... But am more than happy to put down a few hundred from some improvements... Well.. I would still like to see the dyno results! :)
