lurked for a bit before my first post -april 18 2002

Is a 2' add a leaf susp lift ok w/ 2" body lift?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi people,
I got a 2" susp lift for my 93 4-door 4.0 litre man. trans. Explorer 4x4 just to get over those humps on the access roads around my family cabin. Now I thought it would be nifty to get just a little body lift (2"). I looked at 4wheel parts.com and they said they won`t sell a body lift to someone who has or is getting any kind of suspension lift.
Am I missing something here? Is this a dangerous modification? will it work with the 2" that is already there?
I realize it won`t allow me to mount a tire bigger than 31 inch tires without more mods so it would only be for looks, but I want it darn it!

So what do you think? Scrap the 2" susp. lift in favor of a 3 or 4" one? Go for the body lift anyway? Forget about it, and always wish for more?

Thanks in advance!

-Jim from BC

Always wish for more, lol thanks alot Rick, you sure started me on a spiral of mods and moneyspending!
Ah but Moab was fun, thanks for that and everything else.

Hmmm. Define "beginning". For me it was Dec of '98 right before you upgraded the site in Feb of '99. So I guess I'm 5+, because "beginning" must mean 10 yrs ago(?).

Beginning would be the old Guestbook at www.rhphoto.com/offroad.html, before we ever had an actual message board, but were chatting through the Guestbook.

6+ years. I was around before I finally signed up too. I'd always check the featured Explorers on explorer4x4.com for a lifted 2nd gen.

I'm with Gerald, I was around right around the time you upgraded the site, but was just a lurker at that point. 2001 Truckhaven was my first run, and made several more after that.

I wonder who's the longest running active member?

I just did a search of members that joined in the first month this website was updated over from the old offroad.com site (Feb 99). I then noted the names I remember and are still active.

I recall most of these were also active on that older offroad.com site. A couple of these only post rarely nowadays, but still do every once in a great while. I became active in Dec of 98 and recognize most of these names as already being active before I was, so one of them would be the oldest still active member (besides Rick).

Here's the list from ancient explorer4x4.com history that are still active:

Diff Whack Daddy
GJarrett
Kris Guilbeaux (our first moderator, by the way)
Maniak
Michael
mrboyle
Paul B.
Paul Gagnon
Paul S.
Ray Lobato
William Schumacher

Jeremy Hammer was one of the "originals". He's still here on and off.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head. Best way to find out is to look up the guestbook in the Internet Archive and see who had posted.

I just counted and there were 89 members in Feb of '99 - wow. Kinda different now, huh?

I missed Hammer because he waited a year to register on the new site - Feb of 2000 - and I didn't remember that he was on the older site. There may be more like him.

PS ~ Oh yeah, I'd better not forget Char :D

Longer than I've owned my Explorer, so 4.5-5 years. During that time I've owned 2 Explorers and now a Mountaineer :)

Maybe this poll should be:

1) How much money have you spent in mods as a result of joining this site?
2) How much money have you saved in repairs as a result of joining this site?

;)
