How much rust is on your ex's frame?

i have a 99 explorer sport and i'm living in PA, i was looking under my truck, and it has an even coat of rust on it, i'm just wondering if this is good rust, or bad rust. I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed this. I'm an engineering student and i know that some things are encouraged to rust to add to the strength(part of the design) and i'm wondering if this is the case with car frames

Thats why I had it Zebarted. I diidnt know there was such a thing as good rust.

yeah, your 92 probably has a good coat of paint on the frame, but if it gets scratched, it could rust badly, the micro-structure of newer cars' steel promotes 'controlled' rusting, which is what i'm asking about, i'm just wondering what the extent of the rust will be for newer cars.
