I stopped by a 4x4 gathering today put on by NAPA locally and found many of my local board buddies in horror as to how the non-club offroaders were using an RTI ramp. Even after many of the club members ramped thier rigs showing the articulation later on in the day the announcer was egging guys on to go for it. I had to leave when I thought it was getting to be something I didn't want to be associated with.

I will leave you with a few pics and a link to our local board. So for those of you that have never used an RTI ramp it is used to measure articvulation and measure for shocks and see where problem areas are that may be binding. IT IS NOT USED TO SEE HOW HIGH YOU CAN CLIMB UP IT AND TEATER ON TWO WHEELS.

link to thread. bad day for offroading

That's scary to see that NAPA would take on that kind of liability.

I have never ramped my ex, but I would know that is too far and stupid to do what the guy in the chevy truck did--- That's the kind of guys that go out and end up holding up a trail while he gets rescued for doing stuff his truck can't handle!!!.
What a jackass!

If you're the type that likes to be technical, "like a rock" is used to seel Chevrolet trucks. The one pictures is a GMC Sierra :nono:

If you guys read down that thread, the announcer was egging on the people to see who could get up the farthest, and whoever did, would win a $10 "chrome" fire extinguisher... I'm sorry, I'd rather keep my truck if that's the case, definately not worth it. People took it way too far.

that is still stupid... an rti ramp is suposed to see how much travel there is, and as soon as a wheel lifts, thats it...

I would be worried about the Sierra and lack of lubrication. Would an oil pump still be able to keep everything under control at such an angle? And if an auto tranny, it might slip from lack of oil. But I don't know.

Well obviously those idiots aren't too concerned about what the ramp is supposed to be used for. I wanna see a pic of one of 'em on it's side after the thing flips over.

I can tell you that a C4 auto will still hook while on its side and even further past.... as long as you can keep the motor running. :D :p

"idiots, dumb, morons, stupid, etc." has been the response here. Looks like the ramp can take it, the only thing they're harming is their trucks and maybe themselves. Isn't this what the "experienced" off-roaders do... taking their vehicles to its limits?

Yeah, but that's not the point of the ramp-- it is supposed to be used to measure the travel in your suspension, not your ability to drive on 2 or 3 tires-- leave that to the rocks
