How safe is your Explorer?

According to the National Highway Safety Institute, the 1996-2000 Explorer is one of the safest mid sized SUVs.

5 SUVs beat out the Explorer and they are:

Mercedes ML320
Lexus RX300
Toyota 4Runner
Mitsubishi Montero
Land Rover Discovery II

The Explorer beat out 8 and they are:

Durango
Cherokee
Pathfinder
Infinity QX4
Montero Sport
Blazer
Jimmy
Bravada

Its also one of the cheapest to repair (believe it or not)

I've heard it was one of the safest from other sources. As for the cheapest to repair, thats true according to my insurance company also. Thanks for posting that.

It also looks like you pay alot more for those "safer" SUV's

Ray, Most of them are safer due to their "carlikeness" except for the 4 Runner, Montero, and Land Rover of course. As for us paying less....heh, I didn't

Of those 5 that are safer, I think only one can compete in the off road catagory!
