Hey everyone. I wanted to show everyone how to replace those regular interior light bulbs for LED bulbs on 4th gen ford explorer. I'm not sure if someone has or not posted this before, but here you go. I did this on my 2007 ford explorer yesterday afternoon. this project took about 30-45 minutes to do. I am not responsible for any damage YOU do to your vehicle. Attempt this installation AT YOUR OWN RISK.
the bulb number for interior light are 578. I bought the Led bulbs on ebay, from this place.

you are going to order 6 led bulbs. this is how much it needs for all interior bulbs. Cost was $25.76 (3 sets of 2 bulbs per pack. hopefully I said this right) + free shipping. I believe is a good deal. You are going to have some basic hand tools.
first thing is to remove screw from over head console.
once you take remove screw, you will need to pop down front over head console, carefully.
just wanted to show everyone what holds the front part of over head console. Then you unplug connector to the lights.
take off the 4 screws in the circle. sorry for the picture, I forgot to take picture of item above flip over. (the 3rd picture shows a better view of component with screws)
(at least it shows the view of the regular bulb installed.)
picture shows the LED bulb installed. You may need to adjust (by turn them) them once you install the overhead console, at least temporary .
I plugged them up to test them out. I belive they are bright. (turn on the LED bulbs, to see if they work. If one of them don't work, you may need to flip the bulb around.)
For the reinstalling the stuff is reverse of removal.
here is a couple of pictures already installed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
part 2: 2nd row seat light bulbs replacment (from regular bulbs to LED bulbs)
regular bulbs still installed in 2nd row seat lights.
basically what you do is pop cover off, carefully. I used a pocket flat screw driver.
this picture shows the regular bulbs still installed. you need to remove bulbs, carefully. then install the 3 LED bulbs. turn on the LED bulbs, to see if they work. If one of them don't work, you may need to flip the bulb around.
sorry for bad picture, cell phone. it shows the leds on with out cover.
then you reinstall light cover. then test the bulbs
now it cover on.
this picture shows how bright the lights are with cover on.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
part 3: trunk light.
you basically do the same thing as in part 2.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
all that hard work is well worth it, lol. here is a couple of pictures of the finish project.
don't mind the mess in the trunk area (work uniforms).
So what ya think about this??? Hopefully this will help someone that plans to do the same thing on there 4th gen explorer, but not sure how to do it.
