94 XL bone stock :-(
I recently changed out the fuel filter and fuel pump. the Ex has been sitting for 5 years before I purchased it. it has run fine for the past week. just the other day it started to bog down on me out of no where. the more gas I give it the more it bogs down like I'm choking the life out of it. the wierd thing is, I pull over and shut it off. I let it sit for like 10 or 20 seconds, fire it up and it ran fine for another 10 miles before it started acting up again. for the past 2 days it has just been getting worse. as soon as it starts to bog down, I pull over. I let it sit, start it, and I can rev it up to damn near red line. I let it idle for another 20 seconds or so, pop it into drive and take off. drives fine for abour half a mile and starts to bog again. it seams like it's electrical like a TPS or something. if it was a sensor, how would it just get worse by the day? if it was bad wouldn't it just go out? it seams like the fuel filter is clogged up. but if it was clogged up, why would it let me rev it up to red line after I kill the motor and start it again. I'm bout to go crazy!!!! somebody please help!

It kind of sounds as though your fuel pump may be picking up some debris in the tank. When you shut it off for a few seconds it releases whatever it is sucking up and then picks it back up after a few miles of driving. Any chance that you left a shop rag in there? :)

wow glad someone chimed in. ya I'm sure I diddn't leave a rag in there LOL! that is a real good suggestion though.

Have you pulled the codes on it?

327,539

327 was something about the EGR valve, and the 539 just said my A/C was on. I tried everything with the EGR but still the same results. I'm starting to think that the fuel pump that I just put in last week is already going bad. I diddn't really clean out the tank like I should have after I replaced the old pump assembly. it was pretty nasty

Gas was very different 5 years ago. I bet the new gas you just put in released the old varnished gas off the walls of the gas tank. As our constitutional friend.. Bill O'Rights mentioned. It probably gets sucked up to and clogs the Sock on the fuel pickup. Then when you shut it down, it floats away.
I think you need to drop the tank again.

ya dropping the tank isn't really on the top of my want to do list:p: though it probably is a good idea. it just seams like an electrical problem. I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and take it to a ford specialist and get a second opinion.

well I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and go get another fuel pump. now it's making a loud high pitch winding noise. if this don't fix it....... well..... I'll prolly just leave it on the side of the road somewhere. I'm not a big fan of money pits. if I take it to the stealer, they're just gonna charge me more than it's worth just to tell me whats wrong with it.

Just so you're aware of what it is:

327: Exhaust gas recirculation valve sensor circuit below minimum voltage.

There are 3 different diagnostic routes depending on if it's a KOEO Hard Code, KOEO Memory code, or KOER Hard Code.

Anyway, a lot of aftermarket fuel pumps, especially Airtex, make a horrendously loud whining noise when running. If you do put a new pump in and can be without the vehicle for a day or two, empty out all the fuel currently in the tank and use an inspection mirror and small flashlight to see what the inside of the tank looks like. If there is a bunch of varnish in the tank, you can try filling it up with a couple gallons of lacquer thinner and sloshing it around and letting sit for a while to see if it will break down some of the varnish.

Regardless of varnish, I would fill it up with water and dump it back out a few times so you can hopefully get rid of any debris that might still be in there.

well she's finally done!! it was the fuel pump. there was soooooo much debris in the tank! I probably cleaned out what it looked like, about 3 table spoons full of flakey debris. that new pump was fried. thank god for warranty huh! the inside of my tank looks brand spankin new!!! thanks for everyones help and suggestions!

now my next project is to do a manual hub conversion because my autos dont work.:salute:
