Hello Everyone!
I have a problem with my 98 Explorer. The issue just started happening after reaching its 200K miles. There seems to be a humming noise coming from the engine while driving at freeway speeds (40mph above) especially when accelarating. When I release the gas pedal, the humming noise will go down a bit but still there. It almost sound like pressing the gas pedal when in neutral and revving the engine at high rpm. Other than that, everything seems normal and I do not experience any lack of power. Please Help!

Here's what I've done so far after researching some of the threads.
- Tires are new, so I don't think it is a thread issue.
- IAC Valve has already been cleaned.

Thank you in advance!

What kind of tires do you have?

I coudn't remember the exact brand, but I believe it's this one.
Continental ContiTrac SUV - P225/70S15.
I don't think it is the tires, because I spent at least 2000-3000 miles after the tires has been on before the noise started happening. I also had it check and was advised that they are in perfort working condition.
I'm hoping I can get this resolve before anything else start happening.

Yes, My next question would be wheel bearings, rear end, or tansfer case? What year is your truck, and do you have any idea where the noise is coming from?

I'm having the same issue now on my 2010 Ford explorer 4.0 V6 really wish someone knew what it was or better yet how do I check the transfer case to see if that's what it is

Welcome to the forum!
your best bet is to repost your question as a new thread, and placed in the section for your 2010 model.
this is a 16 year old thread and about a 1998.
