Hydrolocked motor; need help. NOW WITH VIDEO (post #16)

The water was not very deep and if you were going slowly you would not have damaged the engine but may have gotten stuck in the mud.

Yeah, he would have gotten stuck the second he hit the mud and would still have a good motor, but it wouldn't have been as much fun! :D

I am honestly a little surprised that resulted in a hydrolock. It didn't look that bad. Time for an salvage engine swap. Probably the cheapest fix.

It's always a dang crying shame to see that happen. After my hydrolock I like to creep into my puddles and back out if neccesary. I'm pretty sure that I can hear the guides snap on the second and third try. He only held the key in the start position for a brief period even though he tried it 4 or 5 times. It might not be as bad as everyone makes out, It's just wether or not you have the time and the tools to start tearing it down and have a peek inside.

Although I hear these engines are quite cheap in the US of A. Here in Australia they set you back about $2200.

Theres a reason land rover and subaru and jeep and all other companies support "tread lightly" and have off road schools. If you understood offloading I have to say you'd know you never "charge" at a mud puddle. Also knowing your cars wading depth and the depth of the puddle by simply checking it with a stick, would prob indicate (esp based on that video) that you could have took that puddle at a low speed with constant throttle and made it through fine. WOT and charging at it will make a back wave just like it did which comes up under your chassis hits your radiator and refracts right into your intake, and your high vacuums from WOT just sucks in more water faster. Making a big puddle may be cool, but even cooler would have been making it through with a good motor too. "Redneck motorsports" is not a way to off road.

Not directed at you but a good FYI for ANYONE who believes there car should double as a jet ski and is perplexed when they brake something practicing there boating skills.

BTW OP just order a new engine your honestly wasting time with this one...

Mine is the 4.0L SOHC, which goes for about $2700 USD. I dont know what the conversion rate is.

Well, some good news. Turns out, my insurance might be able to help me out with this one. I'll keep you guys updated and we'll see where this takes me.

All I can say is; really good insurance coverage is priceless.

This is a very long shot but try pulling the plugs again and see if it will turn over then, there could have been enough water in the intake to lock the engine again. Miracles do happen but don't bet the farm on it.

I tried this, no luck. Sent it to the dealership on Friday.

Wow, if your insurance covers this, you must have real good coverage. lol

I would have parts laying all around the garage and be swapping in a salvage motor if I was in your situation. :D I don't think my insurance would cover it.
