I bought my first Explorer (kinda, its a Mounaineer) after 20 years of owning Ford trucks. I just wheeled home in a 1999 Mountaineer v8 AWD with all the bells and whistles. I already installed the category III hitch and hooked on to my boat and gave it a try. Am I glad I ended up going with the v8. that thing can shure manhandle my boat. It gets 14 to 15 mpg while doing it too. That is a heck of a lot better than the 11mpg I was getting with my truck. So far I think I am going to be a devoted x owner.

Enjoy it. And welcome.

you know i have been very impressed with the towing capabilities of explorers in general. it seems liek you see 4runners and blazers squatted down to the ground when towing a boat or a heavy trailer, but not explorers.

way to go on the mountaineer, if your visiting this site you probably already caught the build-up bug.

Congrats!!

Yup I am definately getting the modification bug. First off the line will be a KKM intake and a custom cat back exhaust on top of my towing goodies. Eventually I will be looking at a westin grill guard and tail light guards and since I am a big duck hunter I am considering a camo-clad vehicle accent kit on the lower portion of the side in advantage wetlands camo. http://www.camoclad.com/truck.htm

very nice! that will look very sharp. what color is your X? i use my baby to get to and around the huntign woods. mostly deer and turkey. sounds like you got a good plan. you can see that this site is packed with guys who have the knowledge and full of guys like me who have learned the hardway, either way you found the best explorer site that exists.

White with a tan interrior. It should look good with the cattail camo. I will be getting a cargo platform for deer season because I just can,t bring myself to put a field dressed deer in the back.

i totally understand. i have the reese platform for my game. it works pretty nice to take the family camping as well. my wife and son like to lay the seats down and lay back on an air mattress and istead of putting everything on top i put it on the platform and go.

Wetlands has got to be the best pattern. I wanted to do it to my 95 X but after lookin at it for a while, i dont think itd look to good with that beautiful blue/green color. So i settled for two Gold DU Duck heads on either side of my rear windows... Have fun with your X, i know i am.
