Hey folks. I am new here and glad to have found this site! I love the new Explorer. We rented one in October, it was a white XLT, with leather and it had the optional nice touch screen in it. It only had 3 miles on it when I picked it up!

Well we are going out of town and I rented another. This one is also an XLT, but its different. It has leather, but it does not have the touch screen on the center dash and it has the base model looking cluster. It seems strange, because for 2013 on the build your own, it says you cannot have leather with the standard cluster/non-touch screen. I guess it was available like that in 2012, but not for 2013? Thats all I can figure.

I searched other 2012 Explorers, but all of the ones I have seen with leather have the touch screen in the center stack and the upgraded instrument cluster. So, is the one I rented just a rare model?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums Tennesseestorm!

I'm thinking that maybe it was a 'fleet' vehicle with different options combinations availability???

It was my understanding that late 2011 feature sets were rolled into 2012. My point being I wouldn't rule out a 2011 badged as a 2012

For the 2011 XLT model, the only way to get leather sets was through a bundled package which included the MFT touch screen.

I assume that rental configuration is unique for fleet companies.

No, it's normal. For 2012 you could have gotten what I believe they called the 204a pkg on the explorer xlt, which have you leather seats, a back up camera, and I believe 8 way driver and 6 way passenger power seats. I think ford deleted the option due to low demand, I know at my dealer out of all the 2012's we sold we only ever had 1 that was equipped like that. That setup is still available on the edge for 2013. Also, that is the stock setup that the xlt gets( base
Cluster and radio setup, mft is optional and that's what it looks like without it.)

Welcome to the Forum Tennesseestorm.:wavey:
As you can see, the members here can be quite helpful as are the Ford reps (Cory, Rebecca) that monitor the threads.
Now you just have to go out and get one of your own.
Happy motoring.

Hey folks. I am new here and glad to have found this site! I love the new Explorer...

Welcome to the boards, Tennesseestorm! :)

The one you came across was most likely a 2012 Explorer XLT with the 204A package. It included the Comfort Package:

“• Leather Trimmed Seats with 10-way Power Driver and 6-way Power Passenger
Seats (Heated driver and front-passenger seats on Equipment Group 205A) (2-way when DVD headrest are ordered 50R )”

The 204A package also didn’t include the Driver Connect Package (which included SYNC® with MyFord Touch™).

The 2013MY XLT with the 202A package has the Comfort Package with leather and the Driver Connect Package with MFT. :D

No, it's normal. For 2012 you could have gotten what I believe they called the 204a pkg on the explorer xlt...
Thanks for all the help, guys; what a truly great community.
