My X had bearings installed over a year ago. Now I need all new bearing in all 4 corners. I jacked it up and all are very loose and she makes some noise. Any ideas would be great. I am looking for good prices. Damn ford again, they really need to do a recall on it since everyone will have to replace them someday...

Like you said, everyone will have to replace them someday;) There won't be a recall because they won't last forever, but if installed properly, they should last longer than a year. I have a feeling mine are starting to go as well. I have 110,000 miles on mine.

Is it a hard job to replace them? Mine are also pretty noisy...

they are not hard at all but obviously everyone has different skill levels. brakes come off, center nut for 1/2 shaft comes off and the three bolts that hold hub to spindle. then knock hub out of spindle. see simple.:)

fronts yes rears no... there pressed in

And fronts are only that simple if they aren't rusted solid in. For my fronts it was more like remove nut in middle, remove 3 bolts, use every swear word I can think of, then go inside and google some new swear words in foreign languages to try using too. I used a combination of torches, 3 foot pry bars, 5 pound sledge hammers, and calling it a Goat f###er in German to get mine out.

wheel bearings go out on every rig there is, because they are a wear item, you have an inside and outside race and little steel ball bearings rolling around inside the race's wearing out the race due to metal on metal friction.

not all cars will live the entire length of the wheel bearing's and not all wheel bearings will live the life of the car.

With that being said, your previous wheel bearings should have lasted a way longer time than 1yr.

What are the simptoms of bad wheel bearings? I'm getting popping in the suspension under take off and stops when the weight shifts.

popping under suspenson changes is usually ball joints and suspension components.

a bad wheel bearing would usually be a dry grinding noise like brake pads rubbing on a rotor as you turn the wheel.

a good way to check for wheel bearing wear is to jack up the car so on set of tires is off the ground and "wiggle" the tire with force, take both hands one on top of the wheel and one under it then "wiggle" the wheel top to bottom not sideto side because usually there is enough freeplay in the steering components to make you think it is bad

I lost a rear bearing at 39,000 miles on my 05. No offroading, no trailer, no heavy loads.

eh - they all go bad its a matter off time, this time don't get the dealer ones, try timken bearings, supposedly very good stuff a little more $$$ however.

I second that, spend the money on Timken and you prol wont hav them crap out so soon. I'm sure someone might speak up and say they had Timken crap out but your chances greatly increase if you buy cheap. You should go 80k on these bearings!

I replaced both of my rear wheel bearings about a year ago. So far so good.

I checked with my parts store for the front and rear bearings. Wow, 200$ each for the front and about 175$ each for the rear and they both come with the hub.:can:

Apparently they are high quality German bearings... How much are they down in the States?

Yes thats about right, maybe a little high. You're real lucky if they are already pressed on. If the rears are pressed on you'll save money in labor cost by doing them yourself.

Good call. I just checked the rears and they are both shot. No FLAPS carries them which means a call to the dealer Monday. The fronts are popping also, and they are $41 each for the upper and lower on both sides.
