I purchased a 98 explorer back in 01. She was the my baby. I took very good care of her and she still had alot of miles to go, but unfortunately a storm came through last summer and drop a huge tree on her. I bought an 08 in July and she is a dream to drive but has developed a nasty squeal while warming up. Out local dealership has it for two weeks and found nothing. My guess is they never gave it 5 minutes to warm up. Out local garage thinks it could be a power steering pump even though I don't have any issues with my steering. At this point I'm just throwing money at it. It's been parked for 6 weeks. If anyone has any suggestions I'm more than willing to hear them. It has a 4.0 engine.

I’d start it up and let it run until it makes the noise. Then, I’d pull the belt and see if it goes away. While the belt is off check all the idlers and pulleys before putting it back on.

belt has been changed twice in the past few months, all pulleys including harmonic balancer have been replaced. Only things left are water pump and power steering pump.

Welcome to this forum! Spray WD-40 on the power steering pump front bearing then see if it makes noise. If not, then check the water pump the same way. Do each one at a time to determine which pump is noisy.

Shelley,

How many miles on your 08? Is your power steering fluid in good condition? Do you do any of your own maintenance?

Maybe a power steering fluid flush .... if you do it yourself, it would be very inexpensive. Just an idea.

Good luck, and welcome.
