I've been working on my explorer for the past 3 months, and it was finally time to be inspected. (It was sitting for 5 years). I received bad news that in order to pass inspection here in Pennsylvania, I need to replace my whole exhaust system from the headers back. The shop quoted me at $1100. I'll be damned if I pay that much money for it. So I went to advanced auto to check prices, and I could get everything I needed for about $600, and I would just do it myself. But I wish I could find a better way to get this done. I hear the killer is that I have dual catalytic converters. I need a little bit of guidance here. Is there any place online where I could purchase an OEM system, or could I get a shop to just do a custom system for cheaper?

Just let me know what my options would be.

Also, I would love to get a nice muffler that would add a little bit more tone to it, but I do not want it to be super loud. Just something a little throatier. So if you could tell me what would sound good, that would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks,
Joe

unfortunately you can't get cats in the state of PA from a junkyard, some random law, i've tried :( but I agree with getting everything else from a junkyard:thumbsup:

600 for everything from the exhaust manifolds to the rear of the truck sounds like a steal. You might have to bite the bullet on this one and go that route.

Just thought i would add that I could not get any of the exauhst bolts off of my truck. Everything was to rusty/stuck on my truck. You might think about just cutting all the old stuff off, probably make this job alot easier.

Is that a direct replacement for the Explorer? Would it fit my 2 door sport?

It says 4 door. You might be able to shorten it up to make it fit.

it looks like i will just have to order the pipe on the right side of the explorer, because only 1 cat is bad. then from there i will order a cat back system. any suggestions? or can somebody tell me what the inlet and outlet measurements are for the stock muffler? thanks.
