I was wondering if anyone ever had any problems with the passenger side axle pivot drop bracket grinding into the differential using the 4" lift? It seems like it would be fine if I used the 5.5" holes on the brackets but I really just wanted to do the 4" lift. I called Superlift and they said there was an updated bracket in 1995 but I didn't think that these were that old.

So basically I'm just asking if anyone that is using the 4 or 5.5" Superlift, to go out and compare it to this picture I took or if anyone knows what the problem is it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

OH brother this is an OLD topic.
Yes they have been known to punch holes int he differential, isnt that nice?

Superlift redesigned the bracket to fix this, but you should make sure you also extended your bump stops.

Superlift has redesigned their brackets like 4 times now......

I know it's an old topic. The only problem is that I bought the brackets from someone that didn't have any problems with it grinding or anything. And it doesn't exactly look like it's going to punch a whole through the diff. It's not that its going up too far. It's grinding ALL the time. All I need is a similar picture of the bracket to see how much room there is supposed to be. It can even be a sky jacker kit. I would really appreciate it.

What coils are in there? The 4" Superlift ones?

remember every truck is different.
I cant help you because I have custom beams and 2" drop brackets with a 6" coil, so I have lots of room.

Have you contacted Superlift? If thats an early production bracket they should replace it for you.

If I were you I would run more lift and/or see about getting that bracket replaced.
Something is not right. Are you sure you have the pass side (drivers beam) bracket installed correctly?

Why can't he just use the lower mounting hole?

Also 410 how important are the bump stops? I've had my life on for years and never installed them.

I didnt use mine either, but you need to check that when the beam is at full compression your diff isnt gonna hit anything! If something hits then they are important.

If he uses the lower mounting holes his camber may be too far off to correct, unless he runs the 6" springs.

First thing to do is contact Superlift

Thanks 410.

And I agree with calling superlift. They usually are pretty helpful and will send you replacement parts or the upgraded parts, you just have to pay for shipping.

Hey positive vibes, do you have the same suspension lift? The 5.5" Superlift? If you do I could really use your help if you took a few pictures for me. Now I think the problem is in the radius arm drop brackets. Mainly the passenger side. If you could just take some side shots of the bracket up close I would really appreciate it. I'll even pay you if you to take the pictures or anyone else for that matter. I just really need to get this done as soon as possible so I can start my job in the summer after school. Thanks

Yes I have the 5.5" SL. I will try and get my digital camera to work on the computer. I haven't used it before so I'm not sure how long it will take me. Anyone else have some pics of the passenger side drop bracket?

Heres a picture of my Superlift 5.5" brackets if this helps you at all.

91slploder you need to lengthen your breather tube.

Biggs just got the card for the digital camera. Hoping I can post pics soon. Did those help you that 91 posted?

My 4" Trail Master poke a hole in my diff. I just ground down the corner of it and everything was fine.
Looks like there is pleny of bracket there to grind down. or if you know you're never going to use the 5.5 holes, just cut it.

Do I need to just run a longer rubber hose to the inside of my engine compartment, or run it into my cab? Theres a nice rubber gromet that I used for my CB coax cable that I could run it through...

91, inside of the cab would be ideal, I have mine run up into the engine compartment. I have done some deep water crossing the past month and when I checked my front diff it was all milky from water getting into it. So I'm considering running it into the cab or putting a filter on the end.

If this were me i would just run a 2 inch spacer with the 4 inch lift and you should be fine, Then in the back do a soa.

Yeah those are the exact pictures that I need. Now comparing those to the pictures that I took, you can see how close the drop bracket is to the differential. The 2nd and 3rd pictures that I took is when the suspension is in its normal position (all the weight of the vehicle is resting on the suspension). When you look at 91Sploder's pictures, the diff seems to be almost an inch away from the bracket. So I can see where people were having problems with the TOP of the differential hitting the bracket when the suspension is almost fully compressed, but my differential is hitting the SIDE of the bracket ALL the time.

I also thought about just grinding down the bracket but there are other problems that are happening because the diff is in the wrong position.

The first problem is that with the differential pushed closer to the other axle, the slip yoke in the passenger side axle shaft is fully compressed before I can even get the two axles in place. It makes it very difficult to put the two axles in place. So now the slip yoke is constanly putting stress on the female part of the axle shaft(whatever you call that) which of course is not good.

The second problem is that the passenger side wheel base is about 2 inches shorter than the driver side wheel base.

The only way I can see any of this being fixed is if the passenger side drop bracket(so the other drop bracket that isn't pictured) is moved forward about an inch or two and moved toward the driver's side a tiny bit. This would rotate the differential forward from the differential and also toward the driver's side away from the diff.

Also,
I called Superlift several times and found out that I have the old style passengerside bracket wich caused the problems with the driver's side bracket hitting the TOP of the diff. I've found several threads from this website and other websites like the broncoII thread that Sploder found, The Ranger Station, etc, where the bracket is hitting the top of the differential. But I've never found anyone that's had my problem before. I'm still going to order the updated bracket but I'm still trying to figure out what is causing this because I don't think the new bracket will help my situation. If it does fix everything then hal-a-freakin-lu-ya!

The only thing I can think of is that my explorer in particular is just a tiny bit different in some way and is not allowing these brackets to work. I don't see how I could have installed it wrong because there's absolutly only one way to install the thing.

Finally, my last problem is that the passenger side radius arm bracket(the one that bolts into the body mount holes) doesn't have enough room to fit the big round spacer that goes on right before the outer radius arm bushing goes on. The transmission crossmember is about a half inch away from the round part of the bracket. I'll try to get a picture up later to show what I'm talking about.

I didn't mean for this to be so long and I don't expect anyone to fix all these problems, I'm just trying to get the problem out to you guys so we have more than one brain working on this stupid thing. I really appreciate everyones help and hopefully I can get this stupid thing up and running because I miss Moab really and just being able to drive, The bus really sucks! :D and I think I already mentioned that I need this to drive to work every day in the summer! If it's not fixed by the middle of May, I pretty much just screwed myself. :thumbdwn:

Take pictures of all your brackets on your lift. From the sounds of it something is bent tweaked or broken to be causing all the problems you are having. Especally when you compare your pictures to the ones posted by 91 sploder something is different. On my old ranger I punched a hole in my diff twice on the top. I had a much differnt style drop bracket though.

I agree with Rockranger. Has your truck ever been in an accident?
