check the thermostat housing is a plastic, and they crack. if your not getting the motor warm enough I could see you never seeing the problem.

my '06 cracked with in weeks of driving it off the lot used at 54k. Luckly for replaced it free, but it would have been a $300 part or something.:(

I suspect the thermostat housing will be the next to go (if it hasn't already). Ford can make a good product but screws up on something...always.
Not looking forward to that repair. Looking at the parts they have the thermostat dissasembled into at least 10 different pieces.

EDIT: I kind of remember seeing the upper valley of the engine having dried orange coolant so I suspect thats it...now its time to get the money for the repair:rolleyes:

For sure it is! Mine had the same valley of coolant. At least you know what the problem is.

Well fellas I don't know what to do... She's thrown a code and is unable to idle now. She threw the code P0174. Thats a too lean air fuel mixture in bank 2. I'm at a loss. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and disconnected the battery. She wouldn't stay on the first time, died within seconds of starting. Now she struggles to idle. Flexing from 500 RPM then jumping to 1500 RPM.
She was running fine earlier, but is slowly getting worse :( I think this car is a L-E-M-O-N

Any ideas...?

Sorry for my choppy sentences and all...i'm typing with one hand my other hand is in a cast.

Are you o.k.? What happened? Would cleaning the throttle body help?

Not sure what it is. I'm furious at the car. Its safely in the garage, but its not moving an inch. I'm not sure what the future of this explorer is.

And my wrist is in a cast cause of a surgery that I had a day ago.

Hope you get better soon Mate:), petty hard to do anything on your rig one handed. I cant believe how much s*** youve had to put up with from your X. I'm starting to get paranoid 'cause we've both got the same miles on our trucks. Do you reckon the coolant loss is linked to the lean bank code?

I would doubt it. I want to take this cast off so bad... Two more weeks! :D

Anyway...
5 possible causes on my spec sheet
Ignition misfire
Fuel Injector Problem
Engine Mechanical Condition (cam tensioner?)
Fuel Pressure Issue
Or Oxygen Sensor.

The exhaust really smells strongly of fuel. I went through 1/2 tank of fuel in 2 days. Something is up with it.

I hope you don't go through the same thing I have. Hmm...carfax lemon buyback? lol

Sorry about your injury and your Ex.

Hopefully you get this stuff figured out cheap and can fix it so you dont have to drive a Toyota..sorry I just really dont like them for some reason. I dont think the quality is there anymore. (Mom has an 06 camry that rattles like crazy w/52 K miles on it and Pops has an 05 Corolla with numerous interior parts falling off).

As much as I love explorers and wanted another its things like these that steered me away from another one. I need reliability for the next 2-3 years, yes I know Jeep Doesnt scream reliable, so I couldnt risk it with an explorer. Seems like with these either you get one thats golden or one that all the **** parts got put into.

I'll keep me fingers crossed for a cheap fix. Has it ever been decoked like a carbon clean?
My mechanic did that to mine last service, I think that cleans the injectors (I probably got ripped, But at least I know its been done)

At this point in time my next ride is NOT a ford. This is the second and last ford I will EVER own. I was going to buy a Wrangler, but too much money for one. I bought another Ex because my 98 was very reliable. I guess reliability ended in the 2001 model year.
My next ride will be either a Nissan Titan or Frontier, or a Toyota Tacoma or Tundra.

The tojo hilux (is that the same as tundra or tacoma) is bullit proof over here most farmers have one and they arent going to buy something thats unreliable.

I just thought it was a good choice. :( 6 month later this thing is the biggest piece of crap. Everything checked out fine. Carfax good, maintenance records all looked good and a good price. No wonder why! I've learned cheap = crap....the hard way. I honestly would like to ditch this thing and never see it again. I kind of wonder if the valves and pistons have met...

Remedy this code then trade her in Nate, you'll end up a pauper if you keep pooring money into her. But you cant leave the forum Mate, Get yourself a 2007 hot wheels X, that way you can still help everyone out and you KNOW that a hot wheels X will last for ever!:D Plenty on nice cliffs in utah too:eek:

The shape she's in now, I won't get much for her. I'm thinking of a Jeep Wrangler or Liberty. :D I'm at a loss...fix it and be out money or trade it and be out money...

I may have her towed down to the dealer and have em diagnose it.

Rock and a hard place Mate.

Now your talking ;)

But seriously, I was in the same boat you were in back in Feb. Traded my ex in on a Nissan Maxima (MPG's in mind, but didnt work out when you drove that thing like you were running from the cops), when the timing chain was about to snap I made a snap decision to get something else. Someone my dad works with had just paid $4K to get their timing chain replaced on the same car and well I wasnt putting that much money in a car with almost 100K miles.

The Toyotas and Wranglers are crazy expensive, its almost like they go up in value after you drive them off the lot. Hell, All pickup trucks are crazy expensive now :(

I did look at a liberty it was the renegade edition or something like that.... I sat there staring at it...debating, but the Ex was cheaper and I had a 98 at the time that was reliable so I figured an 05 would be better or the same... My 2010 mistake... Well see if the Ex will start tomorrow if not...I'm f***ed
