I think my 05 Ex may be going...

I don't need to know how much, but do you owe anything on your Ex?

If not, it will be cheaper to get it fixed then take a loan out on another truck(unless you are paying cash). If you do owe money on it, more likely that will roll onto whatever you purchase causing it to cost even more(assuming trade-in is less than what you owe).

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but I'd at least get someone you trust to look at it before you get another vehicle. The next vehicle could be even more of a pain in the a##, maybe not...

well I have some how fixed the problem. No clue how. I cleaned the MAF, new air filter, disconnect battery overnight, cleaned electrical connections and now its idling fine. No clue what it was. I'm still not buyin another ford. Seems that little things mess up everything.

Glad you're back in the game Nate.:D:thumbsup:

I still would love to take a tire iron to this car some days... I still hope ford gets my email about how crappy this explorer is/has been. Maybe a few years and a few thousand dollars saved; I'll ditch this for something better. I would assume if I put enough money into something it's gotta run/work good. :D

I did look at a liberty it was the renegade edition or something like that.... I sat there staring at it...debating, but the Ex was cheaper and I had a 98 at the time that was reliable so I figured an 05 would be better or the same... My 2010 mistake... Well see if the Ex will start tomorrow if not...I'm f***ed

2010+ renegades are amazing. I really wanted a black one..but of coarse the dealer I was buying from only had green and red. Have you seen the 2011 Liberty Jet? That is hawt.

Anyway..Im glad that your ex is back up and running. Sounds like yours is a female explorer ;)

Just checked out the liberty jet and WOW  that is one awesome ride! Get a black one and do some painting chrome and it'd change up the look. :D

I do agree...my ex is a female explorer...And she's picky about the parts on her, I constantly am finding that true
She didn't like the "stage 2" intake so one day I find my check engine light on and the intake popped out of place. :wtf: Now; full intake with open filter, no problem(s).
Anyways, so far so good. Still have to take her out for a drive see if I get a check engine light.

The shape she's in now, I won't get much for her. I'm thinking of a Jeep Wrangler or Liberty. :D I'm at a loss...fix it and be out money or trade it and be out money...

I may have her towed down to the dealer and have em diagnose it.

Your *****ing about Ford and you want a HEEP? Biggest POS ever. I'll push my Mountaineer before I ever think about a crap Chrysler (HEEP) POS.

I figure a jeep has to be better than my Ex. The old AMC I6 Engine was built like a tank...literally. I do agree chrysler's products are a POS, but a wrangler is kind of what I want...
I was a big ford fan at first, but now I am not. Thinking of a Nissan Xterra, Frontier, or Titan; or Jeep Wrangler, Liberty for my next ride; probably won't buy another ford. I never will buy a chevy...
EDIT: If ford could build an engine without trouble (tensioner on the 4.0's) I'd buy a ford. Also I hate the new looks of fords. Too fancy for me...jeeps are still rugged looking and looks trail ready. Toyota also on their 4 runners, FJs, tacomas and tundras are way awesome (looks).

Well I hope you get to keep your explorer but not if she keeps giving you problems. If you do sell it buy a frontier or an fj so I can be jealous of you haha. Wish you the best of luck mate.

Thats exactly what I would do. Drop in a hemi and we're set :D

welcome back nate

yea, its crazy how some Explorers have lots of problems and some don't. There are Lemons out there. but I have had mine since 12-31-05 and it had 49,000 miles on it when i got it and it currently has 141,000 and the only issues ive had with mine was 1st-flapper for hot to cold for the rear ac. 2nd-back driver side caliper locked up. 3rd-rear passenger side wheel bearing. 4th-rear driver side wheel bearing. Other than than that just oil changes, flushed tranny and tires. Its been a great vehicle so far. Its a much better vehicle than my 00 Chevy Blazer that i traded in for it. It was for sure a POS/HUGE L_E_M_O_N

Well I hope that this new year will bring good luck. Just hoping to get the rear rotors replaced, and do scheduled maintenance. I want a lift kit. My buddy with his toyota pick-up could make it on a snow bank, but I was embarrassed... :( My Ex only made it half way up! I want a lift, one of my plans for the year :D

Be careful on how much you lift it up b/c if its too high on the stock A arms it puts alot of strain on the CV joints.

considering you thought about ditching the X, you keep on putting mods into it nate lol...

modding = crack

Modding is way too addicting :D Yet, I can't stop since I started. I do enjoy the afternoons out there in the garage throwing on something new. :D

JLindley...I'm not planning on too big of a lift. Something enough that I can fit some 265/75's under there and get up on a small snow bank...

when ever you disconnect the battery the vehicle has to re learn idle.

giving it a little gas, holding it around 1200-1700 rpm for a few seconds should help this.

Thanks for the tip. I find that my latest thing is I start the car up, generally on a warmer start the engine RPMs go up to about 1500-2000 RPM, then all of a sudden drop to 900 RPM. Nothing like you would expect; not a gradual drop; this all happens in like 2 seconds. Start, 2000RPM, steep drop. Sometimes the idle is a bit rough, or it can be a regular idle. Don't know if this is a normal thing with my CAI and Exhaust. I know a tune would really help.
