ha ha thanks , yea i dont plan on going past 5500 lol , but it was free and the stock one stoped working , so i cut a hole where the factory one was and cant figure out how to wire it up lol

its tan/yellow i believe, comes out of the pcm on the passenger side i think

The common wiring is

Red-- power
Black-- ground
White-- + for the light
Green-- Tach signal

I assume you can use the same wire that went to your stock tach, but I'm not sure. Mine is wired into a MSD DIS-4 box.

well thanks guys

I thought it was a yellow/tan wire too. I put a sunpro on my 99 ranger and thats how I had to wire it.

Red - power
Black - ground
Yellow/Tan - tach signal

I don't know for sure what the back light wire color is but mine is wired into the parking light signal.. so which ever wire gives power when the parking lights are on.

alright well i tried to pull the stock Gauge cluster out but the wires wouldnt let me not enough slack in them , i looked at the pass side at the pcm and found a few different Green wires but i did not find a yellow tan wire , anybody else have a tach in a first gen that wants to help me out , thanks Bruce

The colors I listed are the normal colors from an aftermarket tach. I assumed you didnt have the directions, you said you got it for free. I dont know the trucks colors.

well i tried the different striped colored wires going to the coil and nothing maybe the tach is messed up idk
