I did the whole cam chain job and she started right up with terrible clacking. I replaced the new front tensioner with another one and it shut up. Now I have a terrible belt or bearing squeal. I noticed belt hop at the harmonic balancer and saw a 3/16 gap between the plastic sleeve on the balancer and the timing cover. I looked at my old pictures and sure enough the balancer is supposed to mount up flush against this surface. Using a straight edge it proved this gap caused the belt and pulleys to be misaligned causing the hop and the squeal. I have now pulled the balancer twice and each time after I torque it and put on the belt the pulley creeps out showing that space again. I'm just using the balancer and the center bolt. Is there supposed to be a washer under the bolt head? Does the crank shift? My race engine buddy showed me how to gently heat the pulley with boiling water and it slides right on the snout and flushes up to the crank and gear case cover. I torque the bolt relieve the tensioner, put on the belt and there is the is the stupid gap again causing the squeal. It is almost like the balancer bolt is too long and is not cinching up the pulley. This makes me think I am forgetting a washer on the balancer bolt.
Also I have tried submerging that front tensioner in a pan of oil while pumpng the silver piston and every other position and cannot get the thing to "pump up". I finally just threw up my hands and put it in. Luckily it seems to be working. How do you prime tensioners and how should they feel when they are properly primed?

backwards crankshaft sprocket?

When the crankshaft sprocket is installed the recessed side should face the radiator.

If you install it backwards the harmonic balancer sticks out away from the timing cover and the serpentine belt will not align.

Also note that the bolt is torque-to-yield and needs to be replaced every time you take it off.
