So what makes the idle air control motor function? What request or demand from the engine computer cues it and tells it to go to work? Mine idles up around 1500 rpm just pretty much anytime it wants to. The IAC itself is new, so I guess it's just being asked to go to work. Who is requesting the work and why?

The engine control computer (ECC). But, it is doing so based on other sensors. Do you have a check engine light? My first guess is an MAF problem, but that's a guess!

Then again, there is another common issue where the fuel pressure regulator fails and dumps fuel into the intake.

Get codes and fuel pressures.

Well, yeah. I know the ECC is in charge.

And I do have a check engine light but only after I put it in gear and after I've gone a few feet.

Last time I checked KOEO and KOER codes though, there weren't any. Is there another procedure I should go through to read another list of codes?

I don't think it's the fuel pressure regulator. It's too sporadic and it actually runs really good, sometimes it just wants to run TOO good.
