My wife is doing her thesis to become a teacher. However she is having some difficulty getting her survey out to a large enough amount of people. So I thought I could help her out, by asking you folks. There are two surveys. One for the parent and one for the child. I thank any one that can help. The more help the better & the more accurate the results.

Her thesis is....
"How violence from the entertainment industury effects the development of children"

Parents Survey Questions:
1. How many children do you have and what are their ages?
2. Does the age difference in your household cause any problems with what is being viewed on television?

4. Where in the house are they located?

Gave this survey to my Girlfriend's Mom. All the answers pertain to the 9 and 11yr old.

1. 3 - 9, 11, 19
2. Not usually

4. Living room, and one in each room
5. 1-3, There's also a computer for each person where they can spend their time
6. Cartoons, G or PG rated shows, Sometimes Reality TV Shows
7. Dexter, Powerpuff girls, etc (for the 9yr old) The 11yr old likes 'Bachelor' type shows, Trading Spaces, American Idol, and sometimes some cartoons
8. Evenings, after dinner, before bed
9. Yes, after dinner
10. Most often it's Cartoon Network, but she'll sit with them while she reads a magazine or the paper
11. Healthy entertainment, hopefully builds morals and character
12. 11 yr old and Dad will play MMORPG's together usually. Church every sunday. They'll go to the movie theater, out to eat, to the park, etc. Usually on the weekends.
13. They try to find other healthy alternatives to watching TV or playing on the computer. Every night they sit together as a family with the TV off, and just sit and talk.


Hope this will help you out. If I can remember, I'll try ask the kids for you too when they get home from school.

any time I am watching a show and he wants to watch it with me, he can, and when he watches it, either me or my wife will be in the family room with him

Doesnt really. I have raised my boys to be very well balanced and just because they watch TV I dont feel this affects them.

Just the fact that when I was a child the Baby Sitter was a 27 " Floor Model TV which probally radiated me beyond belief, as far as an effect I served 8 years in the military and now I am a Sr. Network Engineer at the age of 29. TV is just a medium, children are going to develop however their parents structure their lives. Violence, sex, anger, hate, and all the other things that some feel TV exposes our children to are published in many other fashions , gee has anyone read the paper lately, we all want our kids to read right, yeah sure. US Soldiers dying, iraqi soldiers getting raped in the butt by sticks, I mean hell that kinda meets all the others.


It is easy for some to blame other reason for the misbehaivor of their children, but just maybe they should take a look at where the real blame should lay.
