I currently own a 99 explorer xlt and a 99 mountaineer v8, love them both... Do have some problems though and that's why I found these forums, hope I can get this stuff figured out so I can start enjoying my explorer again. I'm going to search for answers to my problem, then when I don't find the answer I'll post the situation here, thanks in advance for the help

WAIT ! Someone is gonna SEARCH first?
Holy crap!
Welcome to the site, bring your friends

lol!

Welcome! :wavey:

Lol my friends drivesports cars caddys and trucks...

I did search and found a few pertinent threads but none of them had an answer for me...

I have a 99 that doesn't get driven much and the battery died, when I installed the new one the alarm started going off... I pulled the neg cable then found the key fob and tried again... Nada... Put the key in the ignition and tried again , same thing I even pulled the alarm and horn fuses and it still did it. And I let it sit for 15 mins in between hoping that would reset it. Stopper in at the local ford dealer and they told me it'll cost around 1000 for them to reset the thing and recode the fob... I'll just tow it to the junkyard before that, please help I need this thing for the snow

If it matters it's a 4.0l sohc auto XLT I made a ram air kit for it and dual exhaust used to get 19-22mpg and if it gets fixed I wanna see if I can do anythingelse to get more power/ mpg from it, if shed get near 25mpg I'd use her everyday lol anyone put a plow on one? I heard your not supposed to but since it's an extra vehicle for me that pretty much only sees bad weather anyhow, might as well plow my driveway right? Thanks for any help

welcome

So raga your saying the alarm is going off because of a bad door latch? I have 1 door that is froze shut(rear drivers side) can I just disconnect the wiring harness ? Then install the battery and start it up or dies it have to have something connected? I tried to fix that door but what I believe is the actuator was frozen. It never caused the car not to start before though... If it will work without that hooked up then I'll go try it tomorrow.

Just wanted to say, that I think the reason the search doesnt work very well for ppl who don't know what thread they are looking for is the difference in personal perception... I saw this as a underhood problem so i was looking in that section, the keywords I used were alarm reset, won't start, battery dead... None of that brought me to the info I needed, I have pretty much the same problem on the other forums I frequent I'll spend hours searching only to find my keywords were wrong... Maybe I'm stupid...

Thanks Sean, I did see/read the first link, but the second one seems exactly like my problem and I will def do that tomorrow when I get home, I'm at work now surfing w/ my iPod so I think I have a few less options on the page, I'll try the link search tip when I get home also, thanks again... After I get this problem fixed we can discuss my wifes cruise control not working lol

Be sure to post how you resolve this issue... There are plenty of threads out there that lead to nowhere :)

Will do, going home later today keep our fingers crossed

ok nothin happened, there is no button under my dash ANYWHERE... is there some sort of key switch sequence you can use without the "valet switch?? i found this http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299686&highlight=99+explorer+alarm but i cant find the valet switch,,, also found this http://home.comcast.net/~donpaul/Ford_alarm.pdf p. 202 has "module mounting location" but its for 02-05 models, if anyone knows where to find a manual like that for the 99 -01 models it should(hopefully) help alot... new problem, the stereo in the mountaineer stopped working, so i was gonna switch the one from the explorer into the mountaineer until crutchfield delivers the new head unit, but the explorers radio is stuck, i have the removal tool but after they engage the tools just come back out if you pull on them, the mountaineers radio pulled out easily after the tools "clicked" im thinking the mechanisms are broken, is there any other way to remove the radio?? i tried to remove the whole piece (w/ hvac controls etc, but only the top pops off... thanks for any help in each of these problems, im going to search now to see if anyone had the same problem with their radio

i made couple more posts and thats probably against someones rules and someone will be unhappy about it but im trying to get a much needed answer and i need more exposure in case someone doesnt read this category, if your mad dont take it so seriously its the internet i didnt spit on your mom i just typed some stuff lol:salute:... maybe we can resolve this problem and make a sticky because im sure there are alot of explorers out there like mine that arent being driven because of this and the amount of money it takes to have a dealer fix it... i hate dealer service btw

didnt want to start a new thread to ask this question... i was gonna do the torsion twist and shackles to get 2" of lift, a couple mechanic friends of mine told me i would ruin my ball joints... has anyone had this problem or does it pertain to other 4x4s and not explorers?

You can do up to 2" of lift with the TT. Anymore it will stress the CV joints, not the ball joints. Make sure to get an alignment after you do it though. There are several how to's with pictures, and step by steps on here.

Any luck with the prior issue of the alarm?
