I'm lazy and hate cold weather so while I'm waiting for time and cash for a winch bumper I thought I'd look into adding an in cab controller. I've been searching and seen some nice panels from places like 12voltguy.com but I was wondering how many other ways people have found to wire in their winch controls. If you have any pics, post em up, along with how you did it so I can get some ideas.

Thanks guys!

side note, you can tap into the "box" on your winch and wire up a second set of controls in the cab. That leaves the original plug-in available for the remote control.

Sometimes it's good to have the remote for spooling it back in.

What winch do you have? Pull the cover off the relays and see how many wires you have in there.

My smittybuilt has 3. Was very easy to do. I bought my own switches from pepboys. 1 with a cover for the power and a double throw spring loaded one. Grabbed a 12 volt hot, and ran that to the covered switch. Ran the other pole to the center of the double throw switch. Ran 2 wires from the double throw to the winch. 1 for each in and out on the relays.

Now I just flip the covered switch to give power to the double throw switch. Either in or out with the double throw.

Following this thread. Sounds like a good idea what Danny said about the remote also.

Installed the solenoid box into the little tray thingy under the dash. The winch remote plugs into the receptacle.

I'm amazed you still have this little tray thingy...or I'm probably assuming that was on the old setup.

Roadless Gear...

Posted elsewhere before, but an option - - you'd need to consider a different location unless you've got a rare manual T-case or do the Atlas II (or other t-case) conversion.

As Danny mentioned, good idea to keep the external plug for re-spooling...

Where did you get the mounting plate with switches? I'm going to leave the remote on the winch also.
