Bought the weather tech in-channel vent visors and they arrived. Installation looked easy, and was. However, a small piece of the in-channel flange broke off when getting the front, driver's window up. This is not allowing the window to clear the vent visor or the auto-up feature to work on the door. Weather Tech is sending out a replacement, but the auto-up feature is really bothering me on a 2 week old vehicle. Other than taking it to dealer and paying out the arse, any ideas? The piece that broke off is still in the door somewhere and probably the root cause of the auto up feature not working. Thanks.

Depending on your mechanical abilities, I'd take the door apart to look for the piece. The door panel should come off relatively easy. Finding the piece of the visor might be more of a pain.

Define "not working". What is it doing? Is it going up, and then back down? If so, that's because it's encountering resistance from the vent visor. You have to put the window up and leave it for a day, to give it time to adhere, and even then it may take a couple of days to work correctly. I've had occasional issues on it even after years of installation, but they're rare once it's settled.

Are you able to fully close the window using the switch? If so, I don't see how that broken piece would prevent the auto up from working which I'm guessing is the 'One Touch' feature.

Not working - I can get the window fully up and fully down. However, I must keep my finger on the switch to get it up. On it's own it only goes up when finger is pushing the switch.

Yes, fully able to close the window. (As long as I push out on the vent visor a tad). I would have thought the same.

I installed a set of Auto Vent Shade on my 2017 Limited. Didn't take me long to take them off. Never could get the windows to go up with out hitting them.
I have had 3 prior explorers & never had this problem.

For those that have the window vent visors........what type did you use & are you having any issues?

So, not sure what caused the crack on the driver's side, but WeatherTech sent me a free replacement and it installed and is working perfectly. The WeatherTech look incredible and really blend in with the tint. Happy camper.

bnewt - Tried to install a set of Auto Vent Shade deflectors on my in-laws Buick. What a piece of crap! Suggest going with WeatherTech. Read all of the directions carefully and view the threads on this forum for good install.

Great to hear!

I've seen many complaints regarding WeatherTech pricing being higher than others, but they really back their products and fit so much better than others I've used. Previously had AVS and EGR in-channels on my ST, and both had different issues. AVS never fit right, and the EGR shrunk making them loose fitting after four years in a garage kept car. Had thoughts of using 3M molding tape, but switched to WT because the EGR's were discontinued. No regrets because the WT's fit like a glove, look MUCH better, and function as well or better. Was concerned the WT lower profile would drip more water inside the cabin, but no difference. Also much reduced wind noise at highway speeds. Only thing is they are not USA made, but Germany. Not sure if that's a complaint at all. BTW, the clear decals can be removed easily with acetone and a cotton swap. No visible surface damage and very durable. Here's a profile pic comparison of the REAR visors. WT left, EGR right. Gen 5 may not be as dramatic.

I was hoping to get away from the strip running down toward the mirror. That is why I went with the Auto Vent Shade originally. Does the Weather Tech have a set without this additional stri?

No problem with the weathertech's on my 2017. If you're having bounce back issues, pull outward on the plastic and gently raise up the window until close, and let it seat for a couple of days.

AVS sent me another set. Still not sure I am satisfied with them. The rear window set still doesn't fit correctly, + I don't like the fact that the rear flange on the rear ones has to be outside the channel, which means it shows.
