Hello all I thank you in advance for any help.

I recently had my engine replaced in my
03 Eddie Bauer explorer with 4.6 v8. The guy who did it isn't really willing to help and tranny shop wants 75 bucks just to scan it and probably another 2500 to replace I really don't trust them if it's an easy fix.

Now transmission kicks into reverse and won't go past 2nd. I checked underneath for corroded cables and found one just hanging out unplugged.

It's got 3 holes all next to each other and slightly curved is an orange connector near the drivers side of the trans and I'm really hoping this is the root of my problems but can't find any connectors on or near the trans for it to go to. Photo here

Any help or advice would save me.

Thanks.

it's a block heater cord,

look on the side of the engine, it should plug in there,,
also follow it back up to near the grill, where it will have a plug like a wall socket,,

What you may want to do, is flush out the transmission and fill it with fresh ATF, and a new tranny filter. Sometimes all it takes is a small piece of debris to hang up a solenoid or a valve body.

Hope this helps you out.

X2. That wire is for the block heater. The new engine might not have a spot to plug that in unless the donor vehicle was optioned with one. Did this problem happen as soon as the new engine was put in or were you able to drive it around and then it happened?

Thank you guys for the responses. I'm guessing the new engine doeant have a spot for it as I'm unable to find one. After I got down and made sure all the wires were clipped in one of them clicked in and now it's working fine. Took it on a drive and made sure to get through all gears multiple times and it shifts as smother as ever. If I was a transmission problem could it possibly go away and come back? Or do you think It was really just a slightly loose wire? Planning on having the Tranny fluid flushed and changed just in case.

Sounds like you found the problem. The guy that replaced the engine should have taken another look at all the connections after you complained about your issue. Any good mechanic would, I'd find another one.
