I've got an 03 Eddie Bauer V6 4.0 that I bought used and have been trying to improve the lifespan of it as well as increasing the mpg and fixing this rough idle.
I had done all these first:
Cleaned TB & MAF
Air box mod
Sea foam through brake booster
Fuel injection cleaner through tank
New spark plugs & wires
New fuel filter
Now with all this done I was seeing about 14mpg hwy and still had a rough idle.
Just recently did these:
K&N Air filter
New Motorcraft IAC
Started using 89 Octane
Currently, idle is better but still noticeable. I have read a lot on here though that the V6 4.0 is just very common with this. I'm now seeing 17-18 MPG Hwy which really has me feeling better with this stuff.
I have 2 more upcoming things to be done:
Need an alignment
New Accel Coil Pack on the way
Hoping for just a bit more from these but overall definitely appreciate all the insight from everyone here.
