Well lets see here, Indy has close to 300k on it. I started to get a bad shift flare in 1st. Also I know for a that I had a bad front driveshaft. So I found another transmission and transfer case and just waiting to find a good driveshaft. In the meanwhile I yanked the "bad" transmission out and put the donor in...and then the bad news started.

After the install here are the symptoms.

1.Does NOT want to shift into any gears.
2.Kinda feels like the transmission doesnt know what gear to be in.
3.Very low idle. (down to 100rpm at complete stop)
4."jerks" and downshifts at random rpms.

So here is what I did.

1.Reset the computer.
2.Swapped VSS from the original transmission.
3.Ran about 4 drive cycles.
4.Had a sissy fit and cried. :(

I need thoughts, advice, anything to get my truck back on the road.
I very much appreciate the help from anybody and I thank you ahead of time!

You still have the front driveshaft in right? So your transfer case sensors are getting correct readings?
I would get a pressure gauge on that transmission. And make sure it is for a '97.
Is this a V6?
