Hey fellas! I'm new here, and I just a had quick question. I''ve got the trans out on a friends 4x4 Mazda B4000 (doing the clutch), and I noticed the input shaft has quite a bit of side to side and end play in it. This is alarming to me, since most of the transmissions I've dealt with are usually pretty tight in this department.

I wanted to know what the allowable limit for input shaft play is with this transmission? Also, what other trouble spots should I know about? The truck has about 137k on it.

I've heard the slave cylinder is problematic too, about what mileage should I expect to replace it?

Thanks alot guys!

What type of front bearing does that trans use? Makes a huge difference in what the problem...if any...might be.

I couldn't tell ya, never taken an m5od apart. Regardless, between an 1/8" and a 1/4" of play seems excessive in any case. I was told it made no noise. So I might just throw the ******* back-up there until it finally craps out.

Replace the slave cylinder also while you have it out. It could go at any time or last a while. It's more likely that it would go sooner than later though.
