Install 2001 single ford cd player in 97 f150

I buy wrecked Explorers & Engine/Trans dead Explorers and F150's. I got a couple of 2001 nice stock single CD players, I want to install in my F150. The F150 aftermarket stereo is going out, and has an aftermarket wiring job. Anyone every done this or seen this movie. I've got the Explorer wiring diagram in a Chilton's manual but not the F-150. I've got two wiring harnesses in the wrecked 2001 Sports (so I can cut the connector plugs that plugs into the stock Radio/CD player) The F-150 has a 12 pin single connector that is splice into two more connectors the 2001 has 2 plugs with well over 20 pins. It will work if your truck has an amp in the headunit. But seeing that you have an aftermarket radio in it already, you'll be fine hooking up a radio from a 2001, so long as it fits.

However, the factory head unit from an Explorer will not sound better than a cheap aftermarket head unit. In fact, the after market one will sound much better.

But to hook it up, it's literally just connecting the wires in the harness to the radio and you'll be fine.

Take out the F150 CD player first and see if the Explorer CD player will physically fit.

I got an OEM Explorer CD player (maybe a CD/Cassette combo) at a swap meet, and was planning on installing it in a 2000 F150. Took the OEM cassette out of the F150, and noticed the backside was sloped, and not shaped like a brick like the Explorer CD player. Physically it would not fit without modification.

I did plug it in. Plugs matched. Radio worked. Did not try the CD function.

mine actually fits with little modification the slide bracket has to be reversed top to bottom bottom to top forget which but it fits in the empty hole my plugs are different the 2001 and 97 f150 are different wiring plugs with a different # of pins. DJ Dom you don't have the 2001 single CD player wiring color codes for an Explorer or Sport or anyone else out there. The Chilton Manual and Data on line the two sources I use are very lacking in CD/Radio wiring diagrams.
