Hello everyone... I'm sorry if this has been addressed previously, but I just haven't found it if so.

I've read that you can remove the 3rd row seats from a civilian spec explorer, install the cross brace and create a larger cargo area... But can the reverse be done?

Can I take a police spec explorer and install a 3rd row seat?

Sorry if this has been discussed previously but I just can't find any info on it.

Thanks
GDC

I have no expertise whatsoever on the police version of the ex. I would guess you cannot install it because the police version has extra steel tubing that enables it to "survive" high speed rear-end crashes.

Welcome to the Forum Speedbird.:wavey:
That's a question Sgt1411 may be able to answer. He seems to have a fair bit of knowledge about the Police Interceptor.

I'm in the process of acquiring the parts to remove my third row to add the police floor. It isn't complicated, and should be easy enough to do the reverse, although there are some differences in the trim panels and bracing that you'll have to address. Since the police second row does not fold forward, you'll probably need two new rows of seats as well, but I would say that it can be done! There are plenty of pics out there showing the guts of the vehicle that would probably help, but these will be a good start:

Sounds like if you two are both looking for permanent changes you could swap parts.

Being the vehicles are the same frame and body wise yes you should be able to switch between the two. The parts needed for the change may be numerous though.
