I am looking into replacing my automatic transmission in my `91 Explorer and I came across a #56A4LD conversion kit for a GM 700R4, http://www.transmissioncenter.net/AOD.htm

Has anyone here used this kit?

Other than the kit, is there any modification that is needed?

And is the extra cost worth it?

The stock A4LD never seemed to down shift well for passing, going up hills, or pulling even a small camp/tent trailer.

If you can afford it worth it.the a4 can be built up but still wont be as strong as the 700 and will cost about the same in long run.if you dont need OD the c4/5 can be used.way cheaper and plenty strong.

I am doing a swap now. It has been a lot of extra work for all the details. I hope it is all worth it. I used advanced adapters and bowtie overdrive.

There's been a few other members who have swapped in the 700R4, I think BKennedy is one.
I don't know if any used that kit or not, though. Have you tried a search?
