I have been trying to order a set of headers and a few other things from carparts.com for almost a week. I am waiting on a 1/3 off coupon the "fourb002" expired last month. If you have a new one and don't mind my asking what is it? I also plan to put a B&M light truck megashifter on my 91 XLT with a cupon I can get one for about $120. Thanks Rob

Robbie, does that shorten the throw?

Not exactly what it does is allow me to move my automatic shifter from the colum to the floor so it looks like a 4 speed. I have been looking around for a short throw for my 88 ranger I'm running a 2.3 turbo and the shorter the shifts the longer I can stay in the turbo if I find something I will post it. Rob

monson,

If you can, install them yourself. You’ll save a lot of money. Header installation will take a competent mechanic about 3 to 4 hours to install (depending on the year and engine type of your Explorer). You can figure a decent mechanic will charge you from $50 to $60 an hour. So plan on spending $150.00 to $240.00 for the install. Header installations are not complex, just time consuming and knuckle busting. It’s something any shade tree mechanic should be able to do. And just think of what else you can buy with the couple of hundred dollars you’ll be saving.

ok i just looked at my headers closely and it looks really easy to get the one of on the drivers side, it look like a 15-20 min job. the left side is a little crammed but do-able, my next concern is getting them disconnected from the cat. the 1 bolt on the top looks kinda impossible to get to any tips on that, its the 1 right next to the frame very hard to get too. and there is a little sensor thing how does that come out? just unscrew it? any help is much needed
thanx

oh i forgot to add that i have a 92 if that matters to anyone

Well you won't be installing them any time soon. I just got an email saying the shipping date is April 10, so it's at least Ap. 17 before they get here. While you're at it order some of those mechanix gloves you see the pit crew wearing at NASCAR races, they'll save your knuckles. For the 1/3 off cupon, do a search for carparts.com, I found like 5 different cupons. The one that works starts with a number. I'd find it for you but I've got to go to class like right now.

Rob,

Try coupon code 1357004. It's good until April 30 but only up to $300. Hope this helps.

The coupons are: 4wra002 and 4a003. I used the 4a003 Saturday and it worked. From reading the posts, the reason for the back order is we bought out all the headers from carparts.com, at least 5 people are ordering them.
One tip when you get them, soak the manifold bolts with penitrating oil for a couple days before you start. This will help losen them up, they tend to be a pain to break loose.
