I want to put a brush/grill guard on my '92 explorer. How difficult are they to put on the car and what type should I purchase?
Thanks.

If you click on 'Jeff's Truck' in the signature you'll see one from Manik. Very easy to put on (preassembled), 4 bolts on the frame(using existing holes) and a small tie to the radiator support. It will take you less than 15 minutes to put on. Mine was for an XLT and I don't think it will fit a limited or E.B., but they do have ones that will fit.

Here is one from Ramsey, if your going to use a winch too. http://www.Ramsey.com Just to show I am not being biased. :D

As for the type you purchase, it should look good to you and be the one that will fit your needs. If it is just for looks, go for a less expensive one(also less weight), plan on going all out?..go for the heavier made ones with a place to mount a winch, lights,..etc..

Good luck with your truck.

I agree with Goober, Manik makes a really good brush guard. Mine has saved my a$$ to a head on colision and a really steep hill. They are also really simple to put on. Basically if you know how to use a wrench you should be ok.

That sounds good to me! Does the manik have room for fog lights? And is it a good weight for the truck? Thanks for your help.

$$$$?

Also, how much does the manik cost?

The manik has room for two lights. Click on my icon at the bottom. Mine cost me $750 but mine is stainless steel. Even though it is expensive I would pay it again any day. It has already saved me more money than that in accidents. Don't quote me but I think the black is around $450. Weight, hmmmm I think it weighted about 60 lbs. It hasn't made my front end dip down any at all though.

With delivery mine was about $550(black), but Seth is right, it is well worth the money. Without getting one thats a monster, this thing holds up well. I have hit a deer, push started a car and don't even have any scars to show. Seth's is a newer model so the guard will look closer to the one I have(more boxy looking), but it breaks up the flat look of the older explorer well. Get one, you'll love it.

Manik offers two types of brush guards, a one piece and a four piece. What is the difference and which would be better?
They are both offered at: http://www.performanceproducts.com but there are no pictures or any info on the two types.

Both are really good. Mine is a four piece and putting it together was really simple. The one piece is going to naturally be a little stronger because it is welded together however the four piece is definately strong enough.

thanks

great, thanks a lot guys, I think that I am going to pay for the makik one piece and put it on sometime in the near future. I will post a picture when I am done! Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
