Don't own an Explorer (yet) but I'm cross-shopping it against the VW Atlas and Dodge Durango. I've yet to have a chance to check out any of the cars in person so I've been doing a lot of internet research.

A couple of things that I've learned about the Explorer are interesting. Is it true that:

1. No leg room adjustment for the second row seats?
2. With bench seats, you can only access the 3rd row from one side?

Thanks in advance.

1) passenger size slides forward and back.
2) bench seats both the 60 and 40 fold independently to get to the 3rd row.

So no to both

My 2016 has slight adjustment on the passenger side for leg room. My former 2011 did not.

All bench seat models can access the 3rd row from either side. 40% seat on passspass side & 60% on drivers side flip forward.

I believe your questions have been answered. Just to add, with 2nd row buckets, both will slide. Here is a picture of my previous 2011 with the 2nd row bench 60 part folded and tumbled.

Everything stated so far is correct. Also, I believe there are versions(maybe just the platinum) that doesn't have the center seat in the 2nd row and there's a gap which allows access to the third row. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

When you order 2nd-row buckets the 2nd-row center console is an option.

Not only is the 2nd Row Bucket Seat console optional, the 2nd row bucket seats don't have center arm rests!

Thanks for all of the responses. Do the second row captain's chairs recline? I failed to check that when i was at the dealer.

Yes they recline, but they are not captains chairs as that typically means arm rests
