Does a water pump make a constant 'cricket-like' chirping when its beginning to go bad?

the chirping that you hear is a bearing going out, it could well be your water pump, also might be alternator, smog pump, etc.
as a rule if your water pump is going out water will appear thru the seep holes. good luck!

When I worked on Fords for a living there were many times people would come in and say a bearing or something was going in their engine. As it turned out many times it was just the serpentine belt. It is worth a try. If it is not it and it is your water pump or other item then it would have been a good time to change it anyways. Good luck.
Hope I helped.

I just changed the thermostat and my car is still overheating. I'm thinking it's the water pump but I don't know. Also when I accelerate there is a cracking or some sort of chirping going on. Only when I step on the gas

Check your rad to make sure its not clogged, if its not then its the water pump.

Also try...

Also try tightening the bolts on the water pump pulley, look at mine:

I thought the pump was about to disintegrate(the inside bearing) so I noticed some bolts were not done right, you can see that in the picture, i tightened them and the sound was gone. I know I still need to replace the pump since it ran dry from overheating and an empty radiator (don't ask how this happened)

Bill, is the noice coming from the front of the motor or the rear? The Cam position sensor will start to make a bird chirping type noise when it's going out.

Steve, this thread is nine years old.
