Isn't Motorcraft Oil Already Synthetic?

I do agree, but right now, I need an oil change, and don't have the time to do it myself. And I trust the local dealership a HELL of a lot more than the local jiffy lube, which has screwed me in the past.

Probably after this change, I'll keep the tools, oil, etc around to do it myself. Just finished moving into a new place, so getting everything settled.

One thing you can do is take your own oil/filter to the dealership if you don't want to spend the time doing it yourself but don't want to get ripped off on prices either. The Ford dealer here in Lawrence has done that for me in the past and charged $7.50 for labor/materials, not a bad deal.

around here at most dealer/service shops a full service oil change will cost you 25 to 35 bucks!

Depending the oil and filter that you buy you almost always come ahead if you do it yourself.....and doing the checkups that are included in the full service oil changes are not that hard.

Testing by the SAE HSE 806 procedure which is the industry standard for filtration components leaves WIX DEAD LAST ON THE LIST. I stand by my statement WIX IS A LOW BUDGET TRASH OIL FILTER!! Don't believe me, nobody ever does!! Just go out and do the research. I might be wrong but WIX may be the manufacturer of the high quality oil filters that are used by Jiffy Lube, you know those filters that are so cheap that if your engine seizes with a Jiffy Lube Filter in your car theres a good chance the manufacturer will not honor your warranty? There have been numerous cases of Jiffy Lube oil filter failures which have caused engine failures. I am surprised that some people think that the cost of an Amsoil filter is too much. Of all the parts you must buy for your car to PROTECT it the oil filter is the MOST IMPORTANT. I will gladly spend a lousy 12 bucks knowing I have the best filter available. When you run Amsoil Full Synthetic you generally change at 6000 to 7000 miles. If you use say a Purolator and change it every 3000 miles the cost is probably about the same as running the Amsoil filter!! Things I can't live without: Amsoil Oil and Oil Filters, ****ography, XBOX, Zaino Polymer, Armourfend Paint Protection (www.armourfendamerica.com), Vinylex Dashboard Protectant (far superior to Armourall), Viagra, TIVO, and last but not least: AMPUTEE WOMEN!!

I agree, if I am buying a low budget "Wal Mart" filter I will always go Purolator. Nowadays they make far superior filters that I personally am willing to order off the net and pay 12 bucks for an Amsoil filter. Its comforting knowing that "just in case" you gotta run an extra 1 or 2 thousand on a filter that it can easily handle it. BTW: Even Amsoil recommends changing at least every 6 months no matter what the mileage because the filtration media begins to deteriorate over time. So even if you have only 1200 miles on your Amsoil full synthetic you should still pull JUST THE FILTER and install a new one along with a fresh quart of Amsoil.

Can you blame us for doubting you? You've made a claim against a product that most of us believe is high quality and we asked for proof. Do you happen to have any links to this "SAE HSE 806 procedure" that you referred to? I'm curious how they rated other filters as well.

Oh, being such an Amsoil devotee, why aren't you running longer intervals between changes, as Amsoil says 25,000 miles of 6 months is fine.

Where do NAPA filters fall in the study you quoted? Also, where can we see this study?

lol, of course Amsoil will look down upon WIX, they're a business that wants to a make a profit.. they want you to buy their product. So why would they praise a product, even if it is a good product? That's why you never ask a "professional" that works for a company, for their "professional" opinion on a product that is made by they're competition.

You're really having a tough time understanding our intentions here. We're not out to prove you wrong or make you feel stupid or something. We're on here for the same reason you are: to learn more and get other opinions on Explorers and related topics. You've cited a study that you've apparently seen, we'd simply like to see it. If this study truly says what you say it does, then we've all learned some new information and that's the point. Nobody's trying to accuse you of lying. We're not Wix salespeople. If I am in a business of selling "Chevy truck", of course Ford and Dodge are suck! We know better, thats why we are here to learn from other. Give us the proof that claimed WIX is not worth buying. As I understand, Wix made filters for heavy industry equipments such as big rigs and earth mover. You know those vehicles are being use to the max everyday! You and I know that they cost 100 times more then our vheicles combined.

Sadly I have to admitted, the guy the does the engine swapping for me use Fram on my new motor! I was very disappointed and demanded he remove it and replace with the filter (Purolator) I had for him in the back of the truck. I got a brand new Ford Factory motor and to be using crappy filter. He was charging me 3 times of what of the cost of Purolator or Motorcraft filter! He is in the business of selling Fram and he have no doubt that Fram is a better filter then others in the market. It is hard to train an old dog a new trick. Automotive speaking a person who uses inferior parts would alway believe he is not. GIVE US THE DAMN PROOF, Excon!

hmmm... NOTHING there says Wix are bad filters.. only filter made by Fram he does not recommend.
That doesn't back up anything you've said about Wix.

WIX has approx a 73 percent efficiency rating vs approx 78 percent with a Fram filter.
The capacity of a WIX filter is approx 7 grams VS approx 13 grams on a Fram. These resilts are based on SDF15 and equivelants. I was faxed this info from My Amsoil Rep. The SAME INFO FROM AMSOIL ALSO SHOWS THE PUROLATOR PURE ONE TO HAVE A LARGER SURFACE AREA OF FILTRATION! I MAY SWITCH TO PURE ONE!! So to say this info is biased is ludicrous, the information leads me towards a filter other than Amsoil!!

If you're switching to the Purolator, you might as well get a Motorcraft filter, as it is the same filter for much less $.

But yeah, that website really doesn't give any information. Love to see that fax from Amsoil though.

Looks to me from all the info I have seen here are the winners: MOBIL 1 FILTER, AMSOIL FILTER, BOSCH FILTER AND THE PUROLATOR "PURE ONE" FILTER. Any of the above along with a quality FULL SYNTHETIC and you have the best protection you can get. I think I will start using PURE ONE filters along with Amsoil.
