There cooling systems may not have been up to par... Bad mix or heater core or radiator slightly clogged, or even a different temp stat... There are several reasons why theres might not have worked...

Agreed, most likely. A huge percentage of people have cooling systems that need a lot of care, and the electric fan was a bandaid. Regards,

need to do this

just curious if this is necessary if you live in the north? Average temperatures around here in Vancouver, B.C. is around 10 degrees celsius. Would the fan really help that much? I'm thinking about getting an electric heater to heat the engine instead!

I am just south of you in Washington. Yes. It is still necessary.

Unless you NEVER sit still, and are ALWAYS doing 100km/h on the highway...you will need to use a fan to REGULATE the temps on the engine.

Yes.

i have'nt looked under the hood yet, but are you guys just disconnecting the blades off the fan clutch? or is there a few bolts to remove the clutch AND blades.

what about removing the entire pulley assembly, and getting a shorter belt? since belts are sold by rib count and length, so it can be very easily done. Or infact get the belt from the 4.0L mustang??

comments?

Remove the clutch, blade, but leaving the pully since it drives the water pump. The water pump is overrated but you need it. :p:

Gonna need to leave the belt around that pulley as it drives the water pump. They do make electric water pump motors, but I do not believe they make one for a Explorer. LOL
Now like other things I am sure one can be modded to work, but for streetability and reliability not sure...

ahhh didnt know that pulley drove the water pump, good thing the water pump is driven by an accessory belt huuh.

im bidding on a electric fan on ebay, lets see what next week brings!

as far as wiring... why cant you use the 12v that locks the stock fan clutch on as the 12v that trips the new electric fan relay ?

As far as I know the 1st and 2nd gens do not have electric fan clutches. Not sure if the new ones do.

They sure do. I almost pulled the trigger on this the other day from Summit. It is the exact overall length of the stock pump by the looks of things. That's why I didn't do it. I would like to shorten that...but may not be able to. But this is a heck of a pump.

Ditto, I also thought of that pump, but need more space. It states it as being 4.75" long.

OVER FIVE HUNDRED BUCKS..

haha. u guys are crazy

yes. yes we are. There is a difference between like'n your ride and loving your X.

Ok just wanted to chime in. I know it's an old thread. I will be doing this using dual fans off a v6 taurus (junkyard special) it will be on an acc current with a shutoff switch (for hwy use) my work has a metal fab shop so I will use my breaks to fab a bracket and, if needed, a shroud. Both fans will be pullers (they are from a dual fans setup and work together. Having said this. My last truck was a durango v8 4.7l and ran with only a stock e fan (they had both types and I removed the mechanical fan) and was an offroad monstrosity and worked great. Watch your temps, and keep your systems clean.... they Will work great.
