As many of you may know we are in the middle of a prolonged heat spell in Phoenix. It's 106 degrees as I write this on September 17th. This week the temperature is supposed to climb to 110+.

Below is a list of things we have learned about the summer heat.

The birds have to use pot holders to pull worms out of the ground.

The potatoes cook underground, and all you have to do to have lunch is to pull one out and add butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

The trees are whistling for the dogs.

You no longer associate bridges (or rivers) with water.

You eat hot chilies to cool your mouth off.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

The temperature drops below 95, and you feel a bit chilly.

You discover that, in July and August, it takes only 2 fingers to drive your car.

You discover that you can get a sunburn through your car window.

You realize the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

You break a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m. on the way to work.

No one would dream of putting vinyl upholstery in a car or not having air conditioning.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

Only 1 day? It's been at least 112 for 10 - 14 days this summer.

Geeze, that's hot!! This summer's high here was only about 85, and most days, it only hit the upper 70's. It's one of the coolest summers Ohio has had. I'll take about 10 of those degrees. :)

if I lived in ARizona, I'd move. Of course it gets to about 90 here and I wonder how much more of it I can stand... of courseo ur house has no A/C, and the A/C at work is broken half the time... Pretty funny comments about the heat though, if it ever gets cold here in colorado again I'll come up with some good things you learn when it's cold out :).

Well, here in Tennessee it is very nice and cool in the 70's. It feels great, not humid any more, and I sure hope that it stays this way for a while, it feels great. Althoguh if it was in the 100's over here in TN that would be hell, because over here it gets soo humid once it gets hot, but over there, it gets hot, not humid, but still 106 sucks.

Another great excuse to head for Colorado again next year.

On of my favorite memories on the CCR2000 trip was listening to someone on the CB say they just heard on the radio that it was 109 degrees in my hometown of Dallas: and while that was being said, there we were on the top of Black Bear Pass getting snowed on.

Life is great sometimes. :)

Last night it got down to a cool 56* F. I feel for you guys out west. Herer in the south when it gets hot, it also is humid. So it's not so bad out there because as you guys are so fond of saying, "It's a dry heat". I guess even the cactus are yelling 'uncle'.

Yeah, but you know what Rick, we wil have the last laugh when winter sets in and everyone else is buried under snow and dealing with wind chill factors and blizzards. I think that's what keeps us all in Phoenix and helps us forget about the gruelling summers!!
