Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

Hey, could be worse...my old Sammy wouldn't even reach 60 mph..topped out at 52...

Apprieciate the feel better words.

I'm trying to think of it like this; If a stock 01 sport is 9.0 then I've gained something. That's good for me. Haven't really did nothing yet sept waste time BUT, i've learned.

Still have a goal, still not going to stop until i reach the goal. get-r-done.

I will dyno at the end of this project. I really don't have anything to prove to anyone.

You shouldn't worry about proving anything to anyone except yourself. That is why a baseline dyno is recommended.

Maybe I'll do the track thing. My dad is a major track junky. I think he goes every weekend so I'll tag along with him soon.

Alright, that's it....The problem we have with our trucks is the HP/Weight ratio. I'm cutting the entire center section out and replacing with aluiminum.

Don't try and talk me out of it either.

Aldive - Do you have data on a 01 sport?

Reason why is I'm finding contradicting data. I found one web site that said the 0-60 time was a 9.0 for the sport trac, I figured mine was around the same. Found another that said the sport (not trac) is capable of a 8.0 in stock form. This has to be a weight thing between the two. If the 8.0 is correct, then this is bad for me. If I want to get the most out of the engine I'll have to freshen it up.

Again, the way I'm testing is not accurate. I need to take your advice, i amit.

Sorry, no data.

No problem, the data you did post was very good. thanks for that.

On another note, have you heard of cleaning your engive with 1 pint of deisel in a full tank of gas, letting it idle for 30-40 minutes? I need to do something like this but would like to confirm whatever I do with something that has done and not blown anything up.

I not a beleiver in engine cleaners or flushes. I have never seen any motor that used high quality oil have any need for such elixers.

If you feel the need, run new oil in the motor for about 15 minutes then drain and add new oil/filter again.

What oil do you use?

Aldive - Not the oil. Heck no, I don't beleive in cleaning that way either. What you'll end up with is a clocked filter screen in you're oil pan.

I'm tlaking about the GAS only. I guy said that he puts 1 pint of diesel in a full tank of gas and let's it idle for 30 minutes. I've heard of shops doing this but if you do it wrong you could end up with a cleaned out engine that doesn't run anymore. The goal here is to try and clean the valves, rings and combustion chambers. Sort of like the SeaFoam treatment you did. I would do the seafoam treatment if I knew where to get it, but if this works I'll do it.

I use castrol Full synthetic.

Thanks Aldive.

I just drove my friends 2001 Ford lightning to lunch. All I can say is, I'm getting an Eaton supercharger. I know it's not the best thing for Horsepower but It's a kit that is available for my truck, and I think the reliability/performance I'll get from it will serve me well. Remember, I'm not trying to make a race car out of this project, just a lot more power. Also, I don't want to much boost on mine.
I first need to freshen up the motor. The compression test I did looked good but I have a few more bugs I need to get worked out before I go supercharging this thing.

When I'm done, I want a truck that is fast and reliable. Not just fast. I'm still going to do the N/A goal, and after that I want this supercharger. I'll be saving for awhile so this is not going to happen tomorrow.

spindle - can I borrow $4,195.95?

That's what paypal is for spindle. ;)

I do a lot of looking on this site and wanted to share with anyone that didn't know about it.

RPM Outlet

I was able to get my 0-60 times to a consistent 8.0 as is. That's with launching and not spinning a tire. Bet I could even improve this if I let air out of the back tires AND by testing in the morning instead of the evenings, but it's looking a little better. I really should be in the 7's right now in my opinion.

Now, when I get faster, this 0-60 time thing won't be so accurate as my Speedo needle will be going to fast to properly measure. When that happens, I'll defiantly stop measuring this way.

Also, I'm in the process of trying to get a good deal on a built 4.0 SOHC from supersixmotorsports. If everything works out I'll buy the motor and have it ready for when I get more mods done. I'll probably end up with the motor and stage II heads (Not the re-grind cams) Somewhere in between, I'll drop in the new motor. Then all I'll need is the supercharger but until then I'll have a lot of room for improvement elsewhere AND I'll be able to research the crap out of what the best supercharger will be for me. The engine is supposed to be able handle 12-16LBs. I'll probably stay around 8-10.

I've just bought my wife a new car so she won't have an excuse to tell me what I'm doing is dumb. I have leverage now. ;) hehehehehehehe

Yeah, this is all talk until I get with the getting...

Why would you need that much? You can supercharge 4.0 SOHC engines for around $2500
