I did this to my mark viii about 12 years ago and love it. Quick firm shifts with positive engagement. I can't find anything on the truck or explorer transmissions if anything is different. I know the latter transmissions had different instructions from my 95 but that still leaves me questioning the explorer 4r70.

Searching "jmod" returned quite a few results here.

"Turdle" had a J mod and shift kit installed.

Be prepared for rock hard solid ( think good thing) shifts. :D

best advice can give you is to acquire an inch lb torque wrench and a good paint pen for marking the bolts with a corresponding number ( use torque sequence for labelling) , as each valve body bolt is different length. So confusing if they get mixed up.

Thanks. I thought I searched before and found nothing. Guess not. I've got snap off tech angle in all 3 drives. Not my first rodeo with doing valve body work.

Any differences I should be aware of between the J-mod I did on my 97 Tbird and the 2000 explorer?

Truck VB's often don't react the same way to VB kits, sometimes they work the same, but often they don't. Jon was fortunate. The same goes for the old AOD police VB's, and I found that out the hard way. Those AOD's have a manual 2 selection, no 1st on the pattern, and the B&M kit I put in gave me harsh low throttle shifts from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd.

The safe bet is to use any comparable model car VB, say a 98+ Mustang VB for any 98-01 Explorer. Those work great with any VB kit, and the J-Mod too.
