94 is an OHV or overhead valve (as opposed to a flat-top engine, I suppose). It is essentially an old detroit V-8 style engine in a V-6 format... camshaft under the intake with pushrods.
I don't know if people realize this engine family was already 30 years old back in 1994. In it's very early and much smaller displacement days, this engine design powered the Capri. There is an excellent summary on wikipedia, right here.
