In January I put a remanufactured Ford engine in my X. 3/36000 warranty.

Now for the reason why. The oil pressure sending unit is in a rather vulnerable spot. Low and in front on the block. All it takes is one piece of road debris to freakishly split that puppy wide open and dump all of your X's blood on the road. Lost all of my oil in no time, tailgate was slathered in oil.

Heard a clunk when I hit the piece of wood that I couldn't avoid on a 6 lane highway. Within 30 seconds my truck shuttered, then whined, then clunked as she ran dry. Pulled off immediately into a gas station luckily and bought 5 quarts. Made it 2 miles to the tune and lube who then filled me back and sent me to O'reillys, another 2 miles up the road. 25 dollars for tools, part and oil later she was on the road but never sounded the same. Cranks don't sound right after running at 2000 RPM dry.

We are now working on some sort of barrier/cover plate to keep this from happening again. 1991 had only 80,000 miles approx. when it happened. Not bad for a 15 yr old truck at that point.

But 2 quarts of Lucas got me another 4000 miles before the crank finally went.

Has this ever happened to you or others you have heard of?

holy crap, I bet with a body lift this problem is even more magnified. Never even saw this, and yes that sensor is basically open to whatever finds its way up there.

Post a picture of whatever you come up with.
