So I have been hanging out on here for a few months now. Found lots of great information and everyone has been helpful with the few questions I have had. Figured I would give a little background on my new money pit
I bought her back around the beginning of March. Guy wanted $3700 got him down to $2800 due to several things needing fixed. Some of which I have gotten around to other things well are in progress. She had 137k miles on her just over 142k now.
So far we have replaced:
Rack and Pinion-Had a good amount of play in the steering wheel when I got it. First thing I pointed out to the guy and ensured him to get it replaced at a garage would be at least $500. I did not get it replaced at a garage though, but that’s not the point it would have been at least $500 if I had.
Passenger Front Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly- Heard a little noise in it when test drove it plus ABS light was on. I had pulled the codes on test drive at local auto parts store. And it came up with the passenger front speed sensor. So replaced the entire thing which is when I found RockAuto glad I did. I picked up the Timken brand for almost $70 less then local parts wanted.
Passenger Half Shaft- Only had a tear in the one boot, however figured for $35 more I could get a entire new half shaft. And since the hub was being replaced at the same time it seemed to make sense.
Exterior Door Handles- When I got her the passenger front was broken, the two rear handles springs were shot so bought new ones and installed. For anyone who has never done door handles for something that seems so simple. I have to say that they really suck arse, but all done.
Brakes- All replaced and turned the rotors
Stereo/Speakers- Got rid of factory and put in after market head unit and front/rear speakers, deadening material in front/rear doors and repainted the radio bezel.
Shocks- Last weekend replaced front/rear shocks which were the originals. RockAuto again came through got all four for $120. I saved almost the same amount over the local shop for same shocks.
Oh and put in a few extra anchor points in the bed this weekend. Just considering removing the spare tire from under the rear and putting it in the bed. So I needed somewhere to tie it down to if I do go that route. And if not they will still serve a purpose I’m sure. Besides only cost me like $13 so why the hell not. And some In-Channel vent visors a must have.
So far it has not been all that bad cost wise. Between purchase price and parts/labor I am in for just about 4k as of this past week.
That will soon change though in the upcoming two weeks should be getting some rust spots taken care of and painted. Sorry to say I have to keep that Teal color as I don’t have enough cash on hand to get it a different color. I however want to get the rust taken care of as soon as possible so Teal it will be.
While she is getting made pretty again I think I will take out the center console and repaint it as well. Also cladding will be getting painted black. And hope to have a tonneau cover for when I get her back from the body shop.
Then at some point we will need to get new wheels, tires , fix the rear window that does not work, looking for a possible sub enclosure(not sure yet), replace the lights just a little too dim and do something about the front and rear seats. Either replace them or if I can’t find a good deal get some seat covers.
So with all the stuff that is left and will come up im sure I think I might have to stick around for a bit.
