dont know where your MAF is but on my buddies 01 GMC, oil from the K & N got on his MAF and made his truck run like crap.

What has "konked out"?

Seriously doubt you could clog the filter when oiling, however, you could easily have contaminated the MAF with excess oil.

I agree with Al. You've got to be VERY careful not to over-oil your filter. When I used oil/cloth filters (before Amsoil!), I would use a very light coat of oil after cleaning. Then would fill the filter up with wadded up newspaper. Wait a while, and do it again and again until no more oil showed up on the paper. The newspaper trick is a highly effective method when wanting to dry out wet shoes (used often when I mountainbike).

is the amsoil filter better?

:us:

Try unplugging the MAF meter harness and then start the vehicle and test drive (won't hurt to do this.) If it runs much better, then it is likely contaminated MAF wires producing abnormal signals. If so, it is time to do a MAF cleaning procedure (probably needs one regardless.)

Clean the MAF.and as celly says, stuff newspaper in the filter:)

I think so. Cleaning involves periodically putting a shop vac to it. Amsoil claims it filters better than cloth/oil and is less restrictive. Based on the quality of other Amsoil products, I'm happy. My Amsoil rep uses one on his supercharger setup and swears by them too.

good to know thanks celly

A couple questions

Hmm...still havin trouble. cleaned the MAF, reoiled the K&N. Engine still quits on me after a cold start about two miles up the road when I slow down or stop (or RPMs drop to about 500-600).

Should I have reset the computer after cleaning the MAF?

Also, each evening I drive about 45 miles at about 10-15 MPH (never going over ~1300RPM) doing about 300 stops/slow downs. could I just be draining the electrical?

And just switched to AMsoil full synthetic at the same time the problem started. Dont think there should be any correlation here but i thought i would include it.

Not necessary.

I seriously doubt it.

None.

Thanks for the help so far!

does this sound like an alternator or induction problem?
