well no one asked you for your thoughts Halwg....
Wait... so you ask a question, on the INTERNET, and don't expect people to have a different opinion than you? Also, peter never said this was a "laughing matter". YOU said that, when he didn't agree with you.

Seriously, dude, you're the one who showed up with an attitude.

While a "disable car if key not returned" mode wouldn't be a terrible idea, the current system isn't terrible either - it works the EXACT SAME as a car key has for DECADES, except now you never have to remove the key from your pocket or purse.

Am I missing something? Why can't you lock the doors with it running, handle your business, unlock as you approach, get in and drive off?

Or do you just not want to lock the doors and expect the car to entirely handle it's own security?

oh your not missing nothing...
there was just a question that was asked and answered many posts ago...
yea the car should handle its own security and wash itself...

what it should not do is be able to go into park while there is no key fob present in the vehical. :dunno:

i've always wondered about this.
i usually keep my car running, take the key with me, and just lock the doors. just did that the other day when i walked into the bank. comes in very handy with the cold weather and not having to turn everything back on.

but id like to know if someone did manage to get in and drive my car, how far can they go? can they even put the car in drive??

i wondered this to because sometimes when u get back in the car it says there is no key present.... eventually within seconds it sees the key and all is well...
Im just saying that this can be decieving... Like the car will not drive without the key fob inside...thats what i thought for the last year i had the car... well we all know this is not true now... no fob does not mean that you can not drive off with the vehical...

Yeah that sounds really safe. Key stops working for whatever reason? Too bad sucker because you're stuck in drive... and you can't go below 55mph... and also what is Keanu Reeves doing in your Explorer all of a sudden?

woahhh. really ???? how was he able to get your car back to you then?
I think i saw in the touchscreen menu, that there is a valet mode in there?? i cant really remember since it was over a month ago when i was playing with the menu. did you use that option?

Me and the valet guy was jusat trying out wether it will work or not with no fob.... conclusion... u can drive car off with no fob inside

When I picked up my Ex I asked the sales guy this exact question. He said it would continue to drive normally until it was shut off, then you would need the fob to start it again.

I haven't tried it to confirm, but that's what I've been told. It would certainly be dangerous if it just died on the road, so it kinda makes sense.

wouldnt it make more sense to just not let the car take off with no fob present?? woulda fixed any issue or security questions..concerns

i love this idea. However, it be nice to be able to be in the car and have a button in the menu to set the car in remote start mode. Rather than having to turn it off, then remote start it.

bingo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lighten up, Francis. Seems like a simple fix to me. Don't leave the vehicle running while unattended. If you want to leave it running for whatever reason, shut it off, get out and close the door, then remote start it with the key fob.

Im white as can be, Francheska. Nothing is broke so there is no need for a fix.
I asked a question and it was answered...
I would like the car to not be able to drive period without a key fob present..
Not what your suggesting.. :mattmoon:

Question has been asked and answered. Any suggestions on improving the system can be sent to Ford using the link in the sticky section. As to whether they will be read or implemented down the road, I can't say but that is the only avenue I'm aware of.

Peter
