Keyless remote questions for a 2000 Sport

I recently traded in my 2000 Ford Contour for a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4. I kept one of my keyless remote controls from the Contour since the dealer did not have the one that goes with my Explorer. My question thus is two-fold:

1. Is it possible to use the keyless remote control from a 2000 Contour with a 2000 Explorer Sport?

2. Regardless of the answer to question 1 above, how do I program a keyless remote control for a 2000 Explorer Sport? It seems that everyone says something different for each year's model. Please answer specific to my model.

P.S. I already know how to find the code for the keypad, I need to know about the remotes.

Not sure if your remote will work, but to try and program it just refer to your owner's manual - instructions are in there. If you don't have a manual, you can download one in PDF from ford's website.

For those wondering, the Contour remote did not work. I purchased the correct remote off Ebay and it took a grand total of about 15 seconds to program. Programming works just like the user manual says.
