I have a knocking noise in the front end of my explorer (97, 4.0 SOHC, 2wd). I can feel it in the steering wheel. I have replaced the front shocks and upper control arms/ball joints. Everything else is tight and looks good. What could it be? My wife is driving it from Savannah to Cleveland tomorrow and it has be kind of worried!

my guess is the inner tie rods

I was thinking about that too. Should it still be safe to drive?

Tie rod. Had the same thing at about 90K miles of beating the front end in the fields of South Dakota.

how about inner or outer bearings,, I also had a noise while turning an going straight had nasty vibration

I have a feeling its the inner tie rod. I hear the noise around where the steering shaft goes into the rack. Is it safe to drive like this?

If i had no choice I'll drive it. thats just me. If u have another car just park it an fix it
