2020 Explorer ST
I took delivery of an Agate Black ST on 7/3 and mostly have cosmetic issues. However, a couple weeks in the lane centering feature of the adaptive cruise control stop working.

Disappointingly, the Lane Centering feature of the adaptive cruise control stopped working after a week and a half. It’s a cool feature. Unfortunately, the dealer hasn’t been able to figure this one out. They reached out to Ford for help.

The Sirius/XM Travel Link didn’t work until the dealer performed a reset. Plus if the truck sits for a couple of days Sirius appears to restart on the Preview channel, but will come back to life (all channels available) after about three or four minutes.

Overall, I still enjoy the truck and think it looks great. I guess this is part of being among the first to have a new Explorer. Hopefully, Ford will help the dealer solve the Lane Centering issue and future software updates will keep things running smoothly.

One of the Explorer Platinum’s I test drove’s lane centering feature wasn’t working. The button on the steering wheel would do nothing. The sales rep brought up to a technicians attention and we could not figure it out. It almost appeared if the button was broken. Was your’s a similar issue where the lane centering button wouldn’t register, or would it register and not hold the lane?

lane centering is for adaptive cruise. i believe it should be on by default with that. you use the button to deactivate it. there should be a green steering wheel on the screen when it is working.

While engaged, if the sensors can not detect lane identifiers, it will chime and notify you that the function is disabled. It will kick on again (turn green) when it can identify the lanes.

Correct. The button at some point stopped working. The dealer replaced the entire button set on the left part of the steering wheel. It now works.

Had a similar issue. Had to wait until going 70 down highway to get lane centering to re-engage.

Also had similar issues. First with Sirius XM not acknowledging all subscribed services. Fixed that myself with a Master Reset.

Now the Lane Centering is not working properly. The steering wheel button is not functioning. Will be bringing it in for service tomorrow morning.

Welcome to the Forum.
Please report back after your servicing. Thanks.

2020 Limited here. I noticed my lane centering has never been able to activate since I took delivery. I haven't had time to take it back to dealership yet, but at a glance, this looks like it may be a common issue.

There is a pattern that you need to do to get it to activate. Trying off my memory, you need to turn on cruise control, you then have to turn on lane centering and then you need to set your cruise control by hitting the up or down for the set speed. Once cruise control is activated and the little steering wheel is shown below the "lanes", the wheel and outside lanes would turn green and it is good to go.

One doesnt work without the other so make sure you are attempting to activate it the proper way.

Interesting. Thanks for the comments. I am pretty sure I have been trying to activate lane centering after I had already set the speed. Maybe it's a simple order of operations, and I have been messing it up. I'll give it a try, hoping for the best!

Not to disagree with blwnsmoke, but I was able to operate the lane assist and cruse independently. If in the normal driving mode with both lane assist and cruse disabled, the speed-o is centered in the 12" display, pressing the button on end of the turn signal activates the lane assist display is shown and offsets the speed-o.

I really did not like how the lane assist felt when driving a canyon road and catching line to line apex. Maybe it would be useful on a long road trip on a straight road, not so much in the canyons.

Edit, I see the question was with Lane Centering, not Lane Assist.

agree with blwnsmoke, lane centering only works with cruise control engaged--not sure if you need intelligent cruise vs adaptive vs regular. you should not have to press the lane keep button. it should be enabled by default...or at least mine is. i only pressed the lane keep button to see if it disengages and it did.

I have not been able to get it to activate without cruise. But to be honest, I have not had a ton of seat time being my wife's DD after our initial trip home. I will have to try it on Saturday again.

The Owner's Manual is a very handy item.:) Lane Centering will only work with adaptive Cruise Control.

Note: Adaptive cruise control must be on
before you can switch lane centering on.
Activating Lane Centering
The system only activates when all of the
following occur:
• You have adaptive cruise control with
stop-and-go on.
• Your hands are on the steering wheel.
• The system detects both lane
markings.
Note: If it does not detect valid lane
markings, the system stays inactive until
valid markings are available.

What is that and where do I find it?

Thanks for the additional info. I have reviewed that section in my owner's manual and I feel I am satisfying the criteria. I'll try again tonight. But I have been driving the vehicle for 3 weeks and so far the lane centering button does nothing at all. I'm getting less tech savvy as I get older, so I won't discount my own wrong doing just yet though...

Apologies in advance, but we're looking to get into an ST ourselves and are wondering if lane centering is different from lane keep.

I believe that keep is standard on the ST and will nudge you back into your driving lane [we have that in our current ride which does that].

While centering sounds very exciting, does this mean that keep is not a working function?

We would not be using cruise control that much so we're hoping the gentle granny push back into the lane is still available.

Lane centering is just that. It uses both lines to keep the vehicle centered between them. Lane keep monitors if you cross one and will nudged the wheel to get you back into the lane, but not centered. Make sense?
