My truck has developed a small leak at the oil drain plug. Just last month I changed my oil and I used a Mobil Synthetic blend for high milage engines instead of regular dino. My question is, do you think the oil is leaking because the train plug is bad or because I'm running synthetic now?

My truck has 136k, and I've never had any problems with it at all. Not one oil leak until now.

I'm leaning towards a bad drain plug. The only way to find out is to replace the plug. Heck it's only a cheap part at the parts store. It's worth a shot. It's better to have if you ever run over something that causes it to break from the pan. A little JB weld and a new drain plug and you're good.

I've read that full synthetics will cause some leakage but I see you only got the blend. So, maybe, its time to buy the Fumoto oil drain plug. If you do your own oil change, which I'm sure you do, it's well worth it.

Synthetic oil will leak around seals and such INSIDE the motor where it cleans away old buildup or slips into places the old oil couldnt..I highly doubt the oil is why its leaking outthe drain plug

gasket

try replacing the drain plug gasket/seal - I change mine every once in a while. The plastic gets abraided and looses its sealing ability after a few uses.

OK guys I'll replace the drain plug. I was going to get the Fram Sure Drain but I've heard some bad things about those.

Do NOT get the Fram! I tried it and got it to lose thread on the first install. Very poor and weak quality compared to the Fumoto.
